Gillian Anderson promises that the show will still be scary, though.

What is The X-Files without aliens? Believe it or not, according to star Gillian Anderson, the upcoming reboot of the '90s sci-fi series will show exactly that.

"No, no aliens this year, sorry," she told The Sun of the six-episode miniseries. "It will be scary. I hope it will be good. There'll be some laughs and I think overall, even though I haven't seen any of it, I'm most pleased with the fact that it feels like what we used to deliver. And that's kind of what the audience and fans seem to want."

The original series had agents Dana Scully (Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) discover that an extra-governmental syndicate struck a deal with an alien species that wanted to colonize planet Earth. The question of whether aliens exist helped define Scully and Mulder's working relationship: She was the skeptic, while he had an "I WANT TO BELIEVE" poster, featuring a flying saucer, hanging in his office.

FOX's X-Files reboot airs January 2016. Revisit the trailer here.
