With songs like "Siri, Open Tinder," the Seattle supergroup is pushing the boundaries of feminism.

Childbirth’s album Women’s Rights is an incisively witty, grimy, and contagiously crass album. Will you want to immediately join a roller derby gang, or if you’re a dude, will it make you want to pick up a guitar and pretend you have a pair of ovaries after listening? Yes, because girls indisputably rule. The Seattle supergroup is comprised of Julia Shapiro (guitar, vocals) from Tacocat, Bree McKenna (bass, vocals) from Chastity Belt and Stacy Peck (drums) from Pony Time. They play live shows in maternity gowns sometimes filched from hospitals, take press photos maniacally laughing over salad and white wine and generally kick ass.

The group first gained fame from single “I Only Fucked You As A Joke,” a track that comes in at under 2 minutes and has lyrics like, “Ooh baby / You’re not cool and you look like a troll” and recounts a hilarious rapport from a bad one night stand. It’s off their first album It’s A Girl!, which is only available on cassette. Together the albums create a bundle of songs without punk’s usual aggro obviousness, and instead rely on really funny social critiques. “Siri, Open Tinder” is a simplistic look into how inane it can be to search for love with your thumb: “shirtless? / swipe left / gym rat? / swipe left / dreadlocks? / swipe left / spaghetti straps? / swipe left!”

Our chat with drummer Stacy Peck led us into the dark canals of The Muppets, baby showers, and how there are too many brogrammers hanging around Seattle.

Homebase: Seattle, WA

"Baby Bump" off of Women's Rights is about being "that friend" and bringing bumps of coke to a baby shower. What's the worst baby shower you've ever had to go to?

Every baby shower is horrifying in its own way. They are like awful snowflakes.

Have you talked about how you'll split time between your other respective musical projects, since each of you are in other active bands?

To be honest the logistics of doing this band and our other bands plus working at our "real jobs' has become really out of control. If anyone has any advice please send it.

You guys wear maternity gowns during your live shows, partly because they're formless and asexual. It seems like a big "screw you" to patriarchy, while also being hilarious. How would each of you have answered Jessica Hoppers' recent twitter expose on how women are treated in the music industry?

People tell me I'm good for a girl or that I "was actually good' fairly often. I think people just kind of expect you to suck.

Tell us about some of your favorite Seattle bands (other than Tacocat, Chastity Belt, Pony Time) killing it right now

Mommy Long Legs, Wimps, Lisa Prank, S, SSDD.

"Tech Bros" has one of my favorite lines on the album: "Tech bro tech bro tech bro / I'll let you explain feminism to me / if you let me use your HD TV"—How has the influx of the tech industry in Seattle affected the music scene? We call them "techies" in San Francisco—is this a universal nickname?

We call them "Brogrammers." It’s mostly made it super expensive to live in the neighborhood we all live in, Capitol Hill, and made our service industry jobs almost unbearable.

I heard you are hugely influenced by the Muppets and really inspired by Animal's thrashing on the drums. Which Muppets are Julia and Bree most like?

They are most like Statler and Waldorf

Since we're talking Jim Henson: Labyrinth or Dark Crystal?

Dark Crystal all the way.
