The up-and-coming Swedish producer talks to us about his current successes and hopes for the future.

We already know that Sweden is one of the EDM’s most fruitful places. And Sebastian Ingrosso’s protégé, 26-year-old Otto Knows, has already cemented his name as one of the most promising Swedes on the European electronic scene. Everything you need to know about Otto Jettmann can be found in the funny documentary below, but we had more questions for the Million Voices hitmaker.

Hello, Otto, nice to meet you! Where are you right now and what are you up to?

I’m great! At the moment I’m in Melbourne, Australia.

Let’s start with the name. Why Otto Knows? What does this Otto know?

It started as a funny thing. I was supposed to give out my first release and there was this DJ from Stockholm named Özgur Can. And I thought that was a dope name and figured that if he can, then I know. That’s how Otto Knows appeared. I think names are pretty interesting: from the beginning they don't mean anything but when you connect them with music, people relate differently to it.

Name one track that made you want to become a producer. Okay, maybe two.

Faithless feat. Cass Fox - "Music Matters" (Axwell Remix) and Buy Now - "For Sale"

How does one make a name for himself in the crazy (and crazily competitive, too) world of EDM? I guess in your case it was working with the right people from the start, right?

I think you can work with Obama, David Guetta and Bruce Springsteen and still not break trough. The main thing is to bring something original to the scene and something that stands out. Otherwise no one will listen.

Considering you have quite a tight community of DJs in Sweden, I can imagine you guys throw the craziest house parties. Am I right?

Unfortunately we don’t get to see each other too much because we are all traveling a lot. It’s more likely we gather on festivals or in Ibiza for example. But I love them all and we have a lot of fun when we meet.

You got your first taste of music in the underground Stockholm clubs. What would you recommend to visit in your hometown these days?

I’m so boring when I'm home. I go to the same places every night just to catch up with my friends. But there are good places for music in Stockholm. The underground techno scene is getting more popular and alternative rock stuff is getting attention too.

Do you still get the chance to go to a festival or a nightclub as a regular partygoer and just dance the night away?

Yes, I like to go out in Ibiza for example. The atmosphere there is amazing. If I'm playing a festival I like to hang out and watch other acts play. I really like festivals, especially if the sun is shining.

Talking about the view from above: one of your biggest hits is "Parachute." Did you ever do a parachute jump?

Never! I'm not too eager to do it either. I don't really like that sort of fear when I have no control over anything. Too many things that can get wrong.

You’re pretty much a "singles artist" and it doesn’t look like you plan to release an album any time soon. So I guess you don’t think a producer needs a full album?

I’m definitely aiming for an album in the future. I just wanna make people understand me as an artist before and make a demand for one. I think if I would do an album today, I would probably be away from the scene in one year and then no one will care except for one or two singles anyway. But if I build up for it with a bunch of interesting singles I think people will demand an album and actually listen to the whole damn thing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think timing-wise it would be pretty stupid.

Can you reveal which lines from Britney’s "Work Bitch" did you write? And what lyrics you can relate to in this song: did you already buy a Bugatti or settle down in a big mansion?

Hehe, not a single line! I did the music and they wrote over it. But that’s history now.

Considering you travel so much, you probably know how to pack really quickly. What are your traveling must-haves?

I’m the worst packer! I always pack 30 minutes before I leave. I'm never gonna get a good routine for that.

What are the most exciting things on your schedule for the next six months apart from packing?

Definitely my new music! It's gonna be so much fun to see what people think. It is a bit scary at the same time but I really can't wait to get it out

And finally what would you recommend to a starting producer?

There are no shortcuts, work your ass off and try to do something different. Make music in different BPM's and have fun!
