After getting the boot in 2014, Alberto Del Rio made a comeback this weekend. Here are 5 other fired wrestlers we'd like to see return.

Alberto Del Rio wrestled his last WWE match on August 5th, 2014. Jack Swagger defeated Del Rio, but his real defeat would come backstage later that night.

What exactly went down has never been verified, but rumor has it that Del Rio smacked a fellow employee (not cool) who had just told him a racist joke (totally cool). On August 7th, WWE released a statement saying that Del Rio had been released from the company due to “unprofessional conduct.”

Justified coworker abuse or not, it didn’t take long for Del Rio to land another gig.

Four days after WWE released him it was announced that Del Rio would be returning to Mexico City’s AAA (Asistencia Asesoría y Administración) wrestling outfit. Over the next year, he would go on to win the Lucha Libre World Cup (alongside Myzteziz and Rey Mysterio Jr.), be named the company’s Técnico of the Year, and take home the AAA Mega Championship. In fact, Del Rio—who wrestles under the name El Patrón Alberto in AAA—is still their Champ.

All of this is strange because this past Sunday at the WWE’s Pay-per-view event Hell in a Cell, Del Rio made an unannounced return (alongside his new manager Zeb Colter) in a surprise match against John Cena.

The result? Del Rio won and became the new United States Champ in the process.

If the math above is correct, here’s what you should do tomorrow as soon as you get into work: punch a racist coworker in the face. Sure, your employer may fire you at first, but in a year or so they’ll not only hire you back, but they’ll do so with a sweet-ass promotion and raise.

Here are five other fired WWE talents we think are worthy of being hired back on... and given that coveted corner office.

Evan Bourne

With his WWE debut in 2008, high-flier Evan Bourne quickly proved to be a fan favorite. Over the next six years, he’d share a WWE Tag Team Championship with Kofi Kingston and win a Slammy Award for Best Finishing Maneuver (Air Bourne, AKA shooting star press). Bourne first hit a bump in the road in 2012 when he injured his foot in a car accident. He was out for a full year but made his return to NXT the following year in a match against Sami Zayn. Things seemed to be back on an upswing for Bourne, but in June 2014 he was released after reportedly failing two separate drug tests. Do I want my wrestlers all ‘roided up on performance-enhancing drugs? Of course not. But I’ve got one word for those who think that releasing Bourne over a couple failed drug tests was justified: Ryback. I’m pretty sure that guy is a performance-enhancing drug at this point.

Jim Ross

As much as I love listening to JBL’s insanity, no one calls a match better than JR. Ross took Gorilla Monsoon’s spot behind the announcer’s table in 1993. Over the next twenty years, Ross would become a company executive and talent relations consultant, giving him important roles in the company both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes. In September 2013, Ross abruptly announced his retirement from the company, but his contract wasn’t set to expire until the following July, leaving some to suspect that he had been forced out. This theory was later verified by Vince McMahon himself, who stated Ross had been released due to his actions at a WWE 2K14 roster announcement event the previous year. What actions exactly? He was suspected of being drunk at the event. Big deal, I’m drunk as I type this out. Ric Flair was also suspected of being drunk at the event, but apparently—unlike Ross—Flair can get away with it. Probably because he sweats vodka.

Jeff Hardy

Speaking of being drunk, in 2008 Jeff Hardy was kicked off a Southwest Airlines plane in Nashville for being too intoxicated to fly. But WWE’s issues with Hardy started five years earlier. In 2003, he was released from the company after failing drug tests. He was given the opportunity to return after completing a stint at rehab, but he reportedly refused the deal. In August 2009, Hardy was defeated by CM Punk and “forced” to leave the company in a bit of kayfabe. This was done to give Hardy time to heal from some injuries, but he would soon get more time off than he previously expected. In September 2009, Hardy was arrested on charges of trafficking prescription pills when a search of his home revealed a gold mine of controlled substances: Vicodin, Soma, anabolic steroids and cocaine. Needless to say, Hardy’s face was never seen again in the WWE.

Hulk Hogan

Believe me, I am not justifying Hulk Hogan’s disgusting behavior. He may have portrayed a wholesome childhood icon during the 1980s, but Hogan’s track record in recent years has been anything but honorable. He made a sex tape (with Bubba the Love Sponge’s wife, of all people) and then spouted off some horribly racist comments about his daughter dating an African-American in the middle of it. In light of those comments—not the disgusting sex tape that no human on earth should ever witness—the WWE tore up his contract and erased him from its history. He’s not even listed in the Hall of Fame anymore. Were Hogan’s actions vile? Of course. Should his entire legacy be forgotten because he got caught using a word that most small-minded grandparents use every single day? Probably not.

CM Punk

There’s probably more bad blood between WWE and CM Punk than any other wrestler, which means reconciliation between these two will probably never happen. But fans used to say that same thing about Bret Hart, so you never know.

Nomi Campbell Hulk never said anything others haven't also said. In appropriate? Yes....Unforgivable? I think not. Hulk is the most famous and beloved of all Wrestlers, so I think firing him was a big mistake.

Sean Williams Excuse me.......How is it professional or cool to make racist comments...??????? I don't condone physical attacks, but Alberto Del Rio is an awesome wrestling talent and so is Randy Orton. We should hold all those working in a professional environment to a higher standard. I am always conscious and accountable for my words and actions at work. Since the idiot that wrote this thinks it's cool to be verbally insulting let us meet in a nearby bar and I'll promise you your own personal reward. So if you say something totally wrong "OWN IT" don't be a coward and tattle. Dumb@$$.......

Justin Shady Sean, I NEVER reply to comments because they're almost always posted by nameless cowardly trolls (shining example above), but I felt the need to reply to you because I think you're misreading my post. This sentence in particular: "What exactly went down has never been verified, but rumor has it that Del Rio smacked a fellow employee (not cool) who had just told him a racist joke (totally cool)." I AM NOT saying here that it's not okay to slap a coworker, but okay to drop a racist comment. Quite the opposite in fact. What I was saying here was, that while it wasn't cool to slap a coworker, it IS COOL if said coworker is spouting off some ignorant racist shit. Sorry if you read it otherwise. I probably should've clarified that a little better in the article. All this said, if you still want to meet up at a nearby bar just let me know! I'm always up for a drink!
