Her father, also a guitarist, introduced her to music when she was a small child, by playing catchy tunes for her to sing along with. She soon found a larger audience at the family church, where she sang hymns in the choir. Garrigues didn't become a member of a real band until she was attending college at the University of Florida. There, as a singer, she joined a folk group called the Big Shoals Tract. Her next step in the music world came touring with the Lynda Stipe band, Hetch-Hetchy. That stint didn't last long, and soon Garrigues was on her own again, and taking steps to start a solo career.

In late 1998, Garrigues saw the release of her debut EP, Spirit Act. "Fiddler and the Girls," "Your Country," and her hit single "Misunderstood" are some of the tracks on this first recording. Most of her tunes are a successful mix of folk with pop and rock.

The EP was followed in 2000 by a nine-track album, Groundswell, released under the Average Sinner Records label. In between writing new songs and recording, Garrigues spends a lot of days handling the business side of a music career and traveling to the next gig and countless nights doing what she does best, performing. Her strong vocal ability has earned her comparisons to gifted female singers like Sheryl Crow and Natalie Merchant. ~ Charlotte Dillon
