Alex Ookpik is a Montréaler who writes, performs and produces avant-pop music.
Her music bridges the worlds of pop and experimental music; taking in acoustic instruments, synthesis, field recordings, and studio manipulations, all while remaining ever true to the heart of the song. Love, loss, walking through the city at night, leaves and trees, espresso, perfect imperfection…

She was formerly the lead-singer and keyboard player for the Montreal post-rock band Marlowe (1995-2005); sharing the stage with Tindersticks, Snowpony (ex-My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab), April March, The Dears, Feist, and The Besnard Lakes, among others.

Extra-curricular activites projects have included: an original score and sound design for "Stranger", Praxis Theatre's stage adaption of Camus's "L'Etranger"; a track for the UK tribute to Daphne Oram "OraMIX"; a cover for a noise-artist tribute to Gamehenge (an opera by the band Phish); a little guest-DJ mix or Mitamine Lab's lovely "Mix Tape" series; a contribution to UK-based compilation series "Bedroom Cassette Masters".

Her first solo album is forthcoming.
