Abbass Anoor is a Sudanese artist and poet born in West Darfur, a region unfortunately known for the deadly ethnic conflicts to which it has been a backdrop. Abbass Anoor, who hails from a nomadic Tribe, traveled his country while enduring trying experiences. The conflict in Darfur caused the death of many members of his family. In the 1990s, he came to Khartoum, to the French Cultural Center( Centre Culturel Français ) (CCF, ), where he devoted himself to art workshops and courses in the French language, which he now speaks fluently. In 2002, he found the group Saaga (lightening) and built up a musical repertory blending rap, African rhythms, Arabic, French English and different dialects of Western Sudan, due to the composition of his group. Since then, he has decided to bear testimony to his life's experiences through music and thus set about writing lyrics. Abbass Anoor’s lyrics – in French, English and literary Arabic – portraying the daily life of a people tormented by conflict and take on universal values, such as love, peace, and tolerance.
