When you are in ‘The Zone,’ you are in a gamma state.
Whether it’s during extreme sports, meditation, or when you are wrapped up in a creative project, any time when you are at peak concentration and feel that you can do anything, gamma waves are humming. They are the brain waves that have the fastest frequency. You are truly in the moment, you lose track of time, you don’t get hungry. You are in the zone; a transcendental mental state.

It was the concept of this focused dance of frequency that inspired "Gamma-Wave Rhythm," the latest offering by Toronto-based cinematic rock band, 5th PROJEKT. Celebrating chaos, consciousness and the cradle of civilization, the album blends the influences of art rock, psychedelia and dronescape with elements of traditional and tribal rhythms. Although the signature sound of 5th PROJEKT remains with the ethereal, seraphic beauty of vocalist Tara Rice, underscored by the warm, dreamy guitar tones of multi-instrumentalist Sködt McNalty, the album is a stylistic evolution from 5th PROJEKT's previous release, V, pushing the ambient boundaries of their sonic ambitions into a new vibration.

Written, recorded, performed and produced by Rice & McNalty at their own Studio Organik in Toronto, "Gamma-Wave Rhythm" is a collection of six songs, although, some have claimed that the band doesn’t really release ‘songs’. Instead, they have been said to ‘paint with sound’, ‘conjure sonic landscapes’ and ‘create moods.‘ Regardless, the music from "Gamma-Wave Rhythm" is evocative and engaging, and makes the listener feel transported. The extended play was mixed by Dean Marino (The Black Keys, Tokyo Police Club, Papermaps) and mastered by João Carvalho (The Tragically Hip, The Sheepdogs, Alt-J).

Formed in 2003, 5th PROJEKT has received numerous accolades in the underground and independent music community. Their previous 5 albums have been featured on Top 30 college and university radio charts coast to coast in Canada, as well as on CBC Radio. The band has also garnered invitations to music festivals such as NXNE, CMW, Toronto Indie Week, Rockergrrl, Lupercalia, Otherfolk, as well as music award nominations for the Toronto Independent Music Awards, the Ontario Independent Music Awards and the Orange County Music Awards in California. 5th PROJEKT’s passion for touring has taken them from Ontario to Quebec, New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia making new friends and fans along the way.

The band is currently planning a Canadian tour for the autumn of 2013.
