This is Perry Holmes.
Although this Detroit born performer was a late bloomer when it comes to vocals, some(even himself) still feel that he has something to prove coming from a musical family. A third generation singer (grandson to the late Pervis Jackson of The Spinners and nephew to Stephanie Jackson, a Detroit jazz singer), his approach to music is a fresh mesh of soul, rock, jazz/blues, and funk alternative.
Before doing a stint in the US Army and traveling the world Perry grew up on the streets of Detroit dreaming of being a performer. Starting at the bright young age of 5, his childhood was littered with fashion shows, youth theater performances, loads of costumes, and many hours performing in the mirror in his bedroom.
At the age of 12 his mother discovered Mosaic Youth Theater and enrolled him and his brothers and sisters. Mosaic would come to very much shape and influence his urges and dreams to perform, becoming his safe haven from the rough situations that can be adolescence. At the age of 18 the military called upon him and thinking that his talent was not enough to secure a job in the entertainment world he joined and served for 4 years as a combat medic being stationed in Hawaii and doing tours in Iraq and the Phillipines. While in the military he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge and Army Commendation Medal for providing medical care under fire to fallen soldiers and was also chosen by his unit commander to meet with the then Governor of Hawaii Linda Lingle. He was honorably discharged in 2007 due to being diagnosed with PTSD and other post-deployment issues. After his discharge he realized he was addicted to traveling and spent a few years traveling the states and abroad learning about himself and life. He also discovered that he wanted to somehow work as an advocate for veterans rights.
Having lived in Chicago, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Hawaii, and Detroit among other places, he is now taking all of those experiences and using them to express himself through artistry and to speak out on behalf of veterans everywhere who struggle with post-deployment issues.. While Detroit is his home base, Perry continues to travel and work on music.
