Young Kin
Born in Switzerland in 1984 and raised in China from the age of four months, Andreas Yi-Jun Hwang has had the advantage of growing up in both an international community and in Chinese society. Born to a Chinese farther and Swiss mother Hwang, aka MC Young Kin, has experienced a deeper understanding of Chinese tradition and culture without loosing contact with the outside world.
In spring 2004 he started recording with MC Sbazzo, who was already well known in the Chinese rap scene due to his crew’s (Yin T’sang) debut album “Serve the People” (released by Scream records in 2003). In 2005, Young Kin joined Yin T’sang and started performing and touring all over China. In summer 2005 Young Kin was already opening for major Taiwanese acts like Jay Chou and Will Pan.
In November 2005, Young Kin joined the Iron Mic battle (Chinese national freestyle battle championship) for the first time, where he faced six-year Taiwanese Freestyle Battle Champion MC Davi (Cha Mi) in the finals. He lost to Davi that night, although it was a split decision between the judges.
After a show with Queen’s legendary rap crew ONYX in July 2006, he had a second chance to go against the Taiwanese champion at Summerjam in his hometown Beijing. This time he won, and brought the title back to his hometown Beijing.
Undoubtedly his biggest project to date would be his debut solo album scheduled for release later this year (Winter 2008).
These days you can catch Young Kin with his four-piece band Project 010 or Chinese DMC champion DJ Wordy take on clubs and hip hop jams from Beijing to Shanghai. Recently Young Kin has opened for acts like Saigon or the Jungle Brothers.
