   About Yoko Miwa Trio
please visit: yokomiwa.com for a complete schedule of upcoming performances, to join the mailing list, bio, reviews, press kit and photos, japanese press kit. "Pianist Yoko Miwa displays unpretentious melodies, elegant phrasing, and the lyrical sensibility of a jazz poet…" –Jazziz Magazine. ongoing performances: The Yoko Miwa Trio performs live at Les Zygomates (1st Saturday of each month) Yoko Miwa brings a new grace and lyricism to the classic jazz piano trio with Greg Loughman on bass and Scott Goulding on drums. Ryles Jazz Brunch with the Yoko Miwa Trio (2nd & 4th Sunday of each month) "Jazz and brunch go together like David Ortiz and clutch. It's a natural fit and no one fits Ryles regular Sunday brunch like Yoko Miwa, a modern master from Japan, now residing in the Hub." -Boston Magazine. "Some of the greatest treasures are hidden in plain sight, and that’s certainly true of the Yoko Miwa Trio. Accessible for the price of a drink at two or three Boston nightspots every week, the trio is a model of musical telepathy and subtle but stunning chops." -Boston Herald. Yoko Miwa, Jazz Pianist Originally from Japan, now currently residing in Boston, Yoko Miwa was a student of Minoru Ozone (the father of world renowned jazz pianist, Makoto Ozone) and is now a critically acclaimed, active international jazz performer, recording artist, and educator, who has performed in major cities throughout the world at jazz clubs, concerts, clinics, tours, on live TV and radio broadcasts and in festivals. Miwa has been based in Boston since 1996 and has become a fixture on the city's thriving Jazz scene, performing regularly at the city's top clubs and concert series. She has released four CDs on major labels in Japan, Yoko’s debut CD as a leader Yoko Miwa “In the Mist of Time” was released in 2001 on the Tokuma Label. Yoko’s second CD The Yoko Miwa Trio “Fadeless Flower” was released in 2003 on the Polystar Label. After a well received trio tour in 2003 to Japan to support Yoko’s second CD “Fadeless Flower”, Yoko’s CD went on to receive critical acclaim in the United States. Her third CD "Canopy of Stars" was released in April 2005 on the Polystar label in Japan. In October 2005 The Yoko Miwa Trio toured Japan in support of the release in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Nagoya among other cities. Her fourth CD "The Day We Said Good Bye" was recorded live at WGBH FM Studio in Boston, in November 2007 it was released on the Sunshine Digital Label in Japan and the trio did a two week concert hall tour performing in every major Japanese city. Yoko’s first three CDs are now available for download on iTunes. Her performance and recording credits include Slide Hampton, Arturo Sandoval, George Garzone, Jon Faddis, Jerry Bergonzi, Kevin Mahogany, John Lockwood, Ed Calle, and Mike Turk. Yoko was the personal accompanist for Grammy Award Winning Jazz Singer Kevin Mahogany while he lived in Boston. In May 2001, Yoko was honored as a featured performer in Washington D.C. at The Kennedy Center’s "Mary Lou William's Women in Jazz Festival". Yoko has appeared on “Eric in the Evening” WGBH Jazz Radio Show with host Eric Jackson. Yoko’s CD “Fadeless Flower” has been featured on the National Public Radio Show “Jazz After Hours”. Yoko was featured in a live interview on the popular radio show "Voice of America" broadcast worldwide. “Young mainstream piano trio aim for clean sound, delicate balance, inconspicuous beauty.”-Village Voice “The pianist has an engaging way of repeating a phrase, drawing the listener in before she lets the melodic flow go free again, telling stories full of concise and beautifully-rendered ideas…. The variety of styles Miwa commands, while maintaining a start-to-finish cohesion of sound on Fadeless Flower, is impressive. A gorgeous and unpretentious set of straightahead jazz.” –All About Jazz “Her second album as a leader is one of the warmest, most unapologetically lyrical jazz albums of the year… Miwa displays her facility with a variety of styles on this all-original program….what's consistently impressive is her ability to deliver complex and challenging musical ideas in a compelling and yet frequently gentle and inviting way.” –All Music Guide “…The Yoko Miwa Trio and it is inviting, melodic and technically appealing. The pianist brings a state of grace to nine vivid compositions which express her many emotions and a rare jazz sophistication.”-Sounds of Timeless Jazz” Please visit the YOKO MIWA OFFICIAL WEB SITE at: YOKOMIWA.COM
