Founded in 1994 by guitarist Coert Zwart, bassist Dennis Van Driel, and drummer Ciro Palma, Dutch death metal band Xenomorph had themselves a nice run within underground tape-trading circles thanks to a couple of popular demos, 1994's Carnificated Dreams and 1995's Passion Dance, so much so that both were eventually compiled for CD release by the Teutonic Existence label in 1996.
But little was heard from the band for a while after that, and it was only following various personnel upheavals (including the rhythm section's departure and the arrival of vocalist P-ter S and second guitarist Kreft) that a retooled formation of Xenomorph resurfaced with the Promo 98 demo. Signed by the System Shock label, their 2001 album, Baneful Stealth Desire, became an underground favorite with fans and critics three years later, leading to numerous European festival appearances for the group. Zwart decided to split in 2003, thereby breaking the final link to Xenomorph's original lineup, but he was duly replaced by guitarist Vincent Scheerman, as the band intended to carry on regardless. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
