I am Jennifer Burlingame. I was born, and educated and educated in Western Washington and after nearly a year bouncing from place to place teaching and making art, I've landed back in Olympia, Washington and am teaching preschool and kindergarten art programs at The Mariah Art School.
My own artwork often comes forth from a series of free association sketches, with one drawing taking shape into another until some appealing imagery begins to emerge which can be developed. In this way, doing art is can be like writing in a diary. Its a safe place to sort through emotions and feelings on paper, then I choose from that free association imagery and put time into clarifying the ideas that demand for further attention.
Working with children throughout my work day as a preschool teacher, I find that I spend more time with children than with adults. Since my childhood held some rather painful and difficult times not so much different from a lot of the children that I now take care of, when I come home, I seem to be full of energy that likes to express itself in my art. So it isn't unusual that a very child-like feel permeates even the most mature content in my artwork.

My favorites are female singers like Ani Difranco, Paula Cole, and Natalie Merchant, though I also enjoy soundtracks from musicals and movies such as The Phantom of the Opera, Shrek, The Wedding Singer, and Avenue Q. | | Movies |

| | Television | I don't even have a TV anymore, people. Well I have it, I just left it in storage at my mom's house.. and I don't miss it so maybe it should just stay there!
