| About Window |
Since 2003, Nick Mery and Jimmy Dasher have combined their writing and performing abilities, serving Texas audiences an unforgettable music experience under the guise of several different musical entities. Most noticeably, the band Window, co-fronted by Mery (guitar, vocals) and Dasher (lead guitar), has made a respectful, if not incredible name for itself. Formed in ’03 as a three-piece acoustic outfit, the band began touring the state, as well as the country, with the help of indie-label support and DIY gusto. Involving the likes of violin, hand percussion, harmonica, mandolin, double bass, and keyboards, the duo remained the focal piece of this intimate movement, continually trying new sounds and ideas out. Once secure in a style of writing that became synonymous with the word “Window”, Mery and Dasher brought in a full drummer (Paul Venzor) and electric bassist/producer (Bryan Rice), to bring more force to the already identifiable sound. Mixing folk, funk, rock, blues, and a Latin flavor customary of their hometown San Antonio, Window has used 2006 and 2007 to catapult themselves onto a national scene, not only by garnering over 60,000 plays on the popular music listening website “purevolume”, but by receiving press/radio airplay in magazines and newspapers around the country, as well as self-sufficiently managing/touring throughout 26 different states in 2006 and 2007, averaging 75 shows both years, while still managing to be full time students in colleges spanning three different cities. Window has opened for numerous Top 40 Acts, such as Blue October, Augustana, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Moses Mayfield, American Idol Top 10 Finalist Katharine McPhee, Sister Hazel, and Sugarcult. They have performed in and won several music competitions, such as Mix 96.1 FM’s “Top Band in San Antonio” contest based on fan votes, as well as the Texas A&M Battle of the Bands in 2006. In their spare time, they have recorded two EP’s, as well as one full length album, The Second Page, featuring Velour Records recording artist Topaz McGarrigle on Saxophone and Harmonica. Window has also been included in numerous festivals, whether it be national events such as the Sedona Jam Festival in Sedona, Arizona, and the SXSW music festival in Austin, or more local events such as the Texas Rock Festival, Texas Folklife Festival, and Northgate Music Festival in cities around Texas.
The band has also engaged itself with several projects in San Antonio. In 2006, Mery and Dasher formed 50 Watt Records, in hopes of bringing the talent in and around San Antonio together for support and guidance. Under 50 Watt, the band has even founded its own charity event, taking place the last weekend before Christmas, titled “Eve of the Eve” Fest, charging cans of food at the door in place of money. Last year, Window took the stage with a special guest, Big Sam (Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Big Sam’s Funky Nation). Currently, the band has taken time off of the road in order to begin writing material for their upcoming album.
