| About Who Needs Dave? |
|
Who are these people?
There's enough versatility and talent in this band to
stun a herd of oxen. To wit:
David Bachowksi, acoustic & electric bass
David Bachowski grew up in West Seneca, a suburb of Buffalo, NY. He started playing guitar in high school but found his true calling after he picked up a bass in a local guitar store during college. Since then he has played in a multitude of Buffalo bands in a variety of styles ranging from classical to thrash metal to video game music. He recently moved to Chicago to reinvent himself musically and plans on pursuing jazz and blues for a time.
Nick Siegel, trumpet
Nick Siegel grew up in the foothills of
Appalachia, born into a family of extremely poor investment bankers. He did not
find his niche musically until much later in life, around his 50th birthday (he
has a rare genetic condition that makes him permanently appear 25 years old).
Siegel is an accomplished horn player, and plays in 7th Kind with fellow horn
player Wilson Hogan. Note here he displays a smooth, yet burnished soloing
style.
Wilson Hogan, tenor saxophone
One of the newest additions to the Who Needs Dave ensemble, Wilson has been playing saxophone for 25 years. He moved to Chicago in 1995 and has been active in the local music scene ever since. Wilson can also be heard performing with the Art Rock group 7th Kind. His influences include Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster and all the great tenor honkers of the 1950s. Wilson is excited to explore his jazz chops with the WND Ensemble.
Dave Newcorn, piano
Dave Newcorn has been playing piano for 20 years, and is proud to be one of the founding members of the WND Jazz Ensemble, and even happier to have the privilege to play with a group of really talented musicians. Rather than dazzle listeners with technique, Dave tries to focus his solos on rhythmic and tonal explorations. Still, he will hold onto that day job a little while longer.
Gary Barkov, drums
Barkov, a founding member of the WND Jazz Ensemble, has played drums for over 25 years since his days growing up in Philadelphia. He’s been in Chicago since 1986 and has most recently worked with the Chicago-based hard rock band R&R (a.k.a. Menace,a.k.a. Big Block Chevy) and
Chicago/Cleveland-based experimental music ensemble of Death on a Stick (a.k.a. Litany of Garbage). Here he showcases his more sophisticated side while demonstrating his versatility.
