   About We're About 9
"Stretches of imagination seldom seen anywhere ... I've just gotten that explosion in my chest that I get when someone new has walked into my life and lit the fuse to another thrill." - Acoustic Live! in NY

Imagine, as Vance Gilbert put it, "some kind of a cross between The Kingston Trio, The Four Tops, and The Story," with a unique brand of songwriting that transcends all of the above.

We're About 9 is a trio that is focused on complex songwriting and big wall-of-sound harmonies. They take turns on lead vocal, all sing on every song, and accompany their voices with thoughtfully conceived acoustic guitar and electric bass.

Katie Graybeal, Pat Klink and Brian Gundersdorf exploded on to the folk circuit in 2003 with an unequivocal buzz, a load of festival appearances, and a relentless arsenal of charm, energy and intelligence.

The kids met at a little open mic at The Jahva House in Ellicott City, MD. There they quickly identified the chemistry they shared, and started singing on eachother's songs. They came up with the name "We're About 9," on the spot, real quick like. They needed a name to go by on a particular night at the open mic, and for some reaon, this ridiculous name (a joke about their maturity problem) stuck. They had no idea that they'd soon be going by this name as they graced the stages of The Falcon Ridge Folk Fest, Philadelphia Folk Fest, Clearwater, Four Corners Folk Fest, Kerrville Folk Fest, Bele Cher, Mountain Stage New Song, Avalon, Susquehanna Music and Arts, Green River (and the list just keeps going like that) !

If you get out to folk festivals, you are likely to have seen, and probably won't have forgotten this trio.

At the time they met, Brian, Katie and Pat were writing and playing for high school and college age young adults and cultivating that style while making the transition to the folk scene. Simultaneously playing and writing for a diverse, intelligent audience is what has given this trio a distinctive, edgy, fun, articulate, professional style.

When they aren't playing songs, We're About 9 is dreaming about playing songs, practicing playing songs, listening to other people's songs, breathing songs, eating songs.

I've posted a new song - Valleys of Green. Please stop by and take a listen, when you get a chance.

And he used to touch the world a little more gently
Sometimes there are hands that we share
All the puppets and the noise that this world employs
Just remind him it's true lovers who dare

- from "Valleys of Green" by Alden Roach

BKP! I had a dream last night that you all moved to California and lived down the street from me! It was so awesome. You came to all my parties and we sold your CDs there. Then I woke up and was sad that it was just a dream. :) Can't wait to save up enough $$ to buy your new CD.

WA9 got some love from John Platt this morning. He played 'Nobody Flying' as part of a typically eclectic Platt set. The other two tracks were Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight,' and, incredibly, a comedy bit from Bob Newhart called 'The Grace L. Ferguson Airline (And Storm Door Co.)'

John had lots of cool stuff to say about the band, and Brian's songwriting in particular. The set was at the beginning of the show, which should be archived at wfuv. org later this week.

Awesome music, hugs and a mint on the way out the door. We're About 9 - a Full Service Band!

Seriously, you guys stole the show Saturday. It was so good to see you play live again, even if it was WAY too short. It was like getting a table at the hottest restaurant in town and being told to leave after the appetizer.
