About me: The WSU chapter of STAND is a student organization that strives to end the genocide in Darfur, Sudan and wherever else it occurs. We are headquartered at Weber State University located in Ogden, Utah. We welcome all members of the community to help us end the mass slaughtering, rape, and displacement of the people of Darfur and Uganda. We use various methods to help the atrocities to end, including fundraisers, movie screenings, letter writing campaigns and numerous other methods necessary. We will not let this happen on our watch, not without a fight. If you are interested in assisting this cause, message us and add us as friends. We will keep you posted as new developments arise.
Who I'd like to meet: Concerned and altruistic citizens who are willing to help other people. People who care about dying Africans and who are willing to stand up for them.

Here's a thought for all of you WS Stand-ers: Today on "faux" news radio 102.7, the host, can't remember his name, was asking his listeners why we don't fight "terrorism" in other countries besides Iraq like North Korea and Sudan. He said that the reason we don't go to N. Korea is because we will then be at war with China, but what he said about Sudan kind of disturbed me. His thoughts on why we aren't in Sudan helping them get out of their horrible situation is because the American people, or any other country, doesn't care about Africa apart from giving them food and medication. I thought that was an interesting thought for all of you and wanted to post it on here.

The bill creates a list of problematic companies, authorizes states and local governments to divest, prohibits U.S. government contracts with companies fueling the genocide, and authorizes states to also prohibit contracts. Since the government of Sudan relies heavily on foreign investment to fund its military, divestment is an effective strategic move against the crisis. The Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act will maximize the impact of divestment on the Sudanese government while minimizing potential harm to both innocent Sudanese civilians and investment returns.
