The summer of 2008 is the beginning of an exciting new FINCA program, "Blogging from the Field," in which a number of FINCA Research Fellows will be reporting directly by way of blog. The goal of this program is to take the different experiences, observations and pictures from the field, and to share our FINCA fellows' insights on the social benefits of Village Banking with audiences all over the globe! Fellows are located around the world, including El Salvador, Mozambique, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Azerbaijan.
Ambassador of Hope Natalie Portman and iTunes Team Up for FINCA
Apple iTunes invited Natalie Portman to produce its first-ever charity album with the specific goal of raising funds to support FINCA's Village Banking Campaign. The 16-song benefit compilation, Big Change: Songs for FINCA, is available for download exclusively on iTunes for $7.99, with net proceeds benefiting FINCA. The album includes exclusive tracks from The Shins, Rogue Wave, Beirut , and Devendra Banhart among others.
Maria Lucia Potosi Ramirez of San Jose de Chorlavi, Ecuador, is married and the mother of five children. She has spent her lifetime weaving beautiful wool sweaters and selling them in the local market. But the income she earned from selling her handiwork went toward providing daily necessities for her family, which never allowed her to save so she could buy wool in bulk at a lower cost.
