velvet landscape is a collaboration of two amazing talents spawning a new sound with original songs. Their composition ‘Field of Horses’ was a semi-finalist in the 2007 UK Songwriting contest. Paul Birtwell and Annette Reis Dunne form a singer/song writing partnership that has created a unique sound with their excellent musicianship and original compositions. Paul and Annette have played at Band on the Wall in Manchester, at the Boddingtons Cream Tent Festival, Buxton Jazz Fringe Festival, West Fourteen Club formerly The Orange Club in Kensington. Annette Reis Dunne appeared on albums with Victor Brox and also the late Alexis Korner. Annette Reis Dunne Annette’s musical career began as a classically trained singer who fell in love with the blues genre and formed a blues group with Victor Brox. She later toured Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Vienna, Berlin and Hamburg with the Alexis Korner’s ‘New Church’. During this time she also had her own band ’Lots’ which played the Marquee and Ronnie Scott’s and venues around London. She made T.V and radio appearances and her recording credits include several albums such as ‘Sweet Pain’,’ Death Sting Me’, ‘Rollin’Back’ and with Alexis Korner ‘Both Sides’ (‘New Church and Friends’) and ‘Musically Rich and Famous’. Among this varied array of musical experiences Annette also recorded a dance track ‘Dream17’ for Mike Pickering (‘M People’) on the album ‘North’. Paul Birtwell is a self produced engineered singer songwriter/instrumentalist who has a number of successes as a solo performer. • In January 2004 Mr Material E.P. reached number 7 in the ‘Solarise Records’ top ten. Other songs have received airplay on ‘Interplay Radio’, ‘Xepher FM , ‘Digital Sounds Radio’ and ‘N Live Radio’ • In July 2005 Instrumental ‘Freetime’ was released on Cringe Music Publishing’s ‘Universal Themes’ C.D. for the MCPS licensed Production Library. Instrumental ‘Holiday Show’ is included on the next ‘Universal Themes 2’ album, released in March 2006. • In August 2005 Paul’s composition ‘Until We Cry’ reached the Semi-finals of the UK Song writing Contest. This track and another ‘She Stands Still’ received airplay for most of 2004 on ‘Matchbox Radio 24’ • In August 2006 Instrumental track ‘Caught In The Crossfire’ and song ‘Until We Cry’ reached the Semi-finals of the UK Song writing Contest. • Songs have been included on a ‘Chromium Records ’Compilation album release ‘Up North 3’ and ‘Matchbox Records’ albums ‘Gigantic’ and ‘One Giant Step’.. • ‘It’s never easy being a solo artist and having to play and produce all your own songs, however, Paul is the master of this art. He has flawlessly written and produced poppy songs that the mainstream is crying out for’ [Chromium Records] • ‘Paul returns to Matchbox Recordings with a new song. This is a frank and open number of stripped acoustic guitar and doodling, dreamy bass. The result is a tender, vulnerable song that catches the idea precisely because of its softness. Paul’s voice is clean and clear, and there can be no doubt that he can actually sing. I love the Da Da Da’s as well; it’s just a really great really simple song, really.’ [‘She Stands Still’ reviewed by Dave Chislett who is a journalist, music promoter, 5 FM and SA FM correspondent and columnist for The Mail and Guardian, FHM, Stage Magazine and SL Magazine]. • ‘Until We Cry’ a classic, bluesy, jazzy, sensitive, melodic ballad from a songwriter with substance and sentimental value [Matchbox Records A&R ]
