OVERVIEW
Earn credit while visiting two of the most magnificent cities in the world. See London and Paris as students, not simply as tourists. Be part of the centuries-old Changing of the Key Ceremony in the late-night shadows of the Tower of London. Watch the sun set over Paris from the Eiffel Tower just before viewing the magnificent architecture of the Louvre and other majestic buildings that line the River Seine. Immerse yourself in the student culture of the Latin Quarter, and participate in lectures at the London School of Economics and the American University in Paris. Have the most exciting 10 days of your life while earning USF academic credits
| | Music | FINANCING YOUR TRIP:
INTERNATIONAL STUDIES MAJORS/MINORS: Apply for the Joan Newcomb Study Abroad Scholarship. Contact Dr. Merrick for application forms.
HONORS COLLEGE STUDENTS: $500 scholarship for each Honors College student. Contact Dr. Merrick for more information.
SCHOLARSHIP MONEY: Some scholarship money will be available. Information on eligibility requirements and application procedures will be available by November 5. Please let me know if you would like me to send you more information on scholarships when it becomes available.
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY: The USF Study Abroad Office will create “gift cards” that your friends and family can use to assist you in paying for your trip. These cards will have information about who to contact in the Study Abroad office to make a contribution to your trip. Contributions – no matter how large or small – can be made using Visa, MasterCard, and checks.
FUNDRAISING: I have made arrangements with a book-buyer who specializes in college textbooks. Professors receive many books per year as “gifts” from publishers. Many of them give or throw away the books they do not need. If you would like to participate in this fundraising project, you will give me the names and email addresses of professors that you know. I will contact those professors indicating that you are a study-abroad student participating in this fundraising project, and I will request that the professors donate several books with copyright dates of 2006 or later. When the professor agrees, I will notify you and you will pick up the books and bring them to me. You will receive credit toward your trip expenses for each book sold to the book-buyer. If you decide not to join the trip, “your” funds will be placed in the scholarship fund for others taking the trip. The only work you have to do for this fundraising project is to 1) give me the names/email addresses for your professors, and 2) pick up the books from the professors once I have notified you to do so. That’s it! You don’t even have to ask the professor yourself. (In fact, you should not approach the professor yourself.)
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUNDRAISING:
If you want to participate in fundraising, you will complete the form below that identifies which faculty members you would like me to contact. You should NOT contact faculty members yourself. Any books donated by faculty members on your behalf will be sold to the book buyer and that amount will be credited to your financial account in the Study Abroad Office. I will ask each faculty member to contribute at least three books on your behalf. If for any reason you decide not to participate in the Spain or the London/Paris program, any funds raised in your name will go into a general scholarship fund for other students on these trips.
I will begin contacting the professors on your behalf as soon as I receive this completed form. I will notify you by email regarding which professors have contributed which books on your behalf. You may submit as many professors as you like. If the professor would like to discuss the fundraiser with you, please tell him/her the following:
• We can only sell the current edition of a text, so we are requesting texts with copyright dates of 2008, 2007, and 2006.
• Texts for introductory courses (such as Introduction to Economics, Introduction to American History, etc.) are the easiest to sell, however, we will gladly accept any current textbook.
• Hardbacks bring a higher price than softbacks.
• New texts bring a higher price than “used” texts that have handwriting in them.
• A typical hardback text in good condition can be sold for as much as $50.

You can earn your study abroad credits for either Spain or London/Paris in Spring or Summer semesters (If you choose to earn your credits during Summer Semester, you must register for a total of 6 credits to qualify for a Stafford loan, of which at least 3 credits would be for the Study Abroad trip). You will automatically earn 3 credits for participating in each program. You are entitled to register for an additional 3 credits for each program (for a total of 6 credits per program) by special arrangement. Contact me for further information.
USF FEDERAL CREDIT UNION LOANS: The USF Study Abroad Office has negotiated low-interest loans for study-abroad students. Small monthly payments are required until the student’s anticipated graduation date. After that date, the loan will be amortized based upon the remaining loan balance.
