Ursula is:
banjo, accordian, banjolin, fiddle, ukelele, guitar, kazoo, voices
Nathan, Lara, Steffen, Rocky, matt magura.
Influences
riding trains, sleeping under the stars, freak and sideshows, the ghosts that live in our house, dinosaurs, freak bikes, home made instruments, coffee, bicycles, choochoo trains, bad tattoos, all day breakfast, bicycles, snow, space ships, glow in the dark stars, Fiction, library's, ninja the house cat, old scratched records, dancing, two rivers beer, wild irish rose sherry, abandoned places, sleep deprivation, burlesque... our tolerant friends.
Ursula emerged from the deep sea of Winnipeg in January 2007 in a desperate move to escape the long cold winter and play music for people across the country. With no money and a few cheap and out of tune instruments they hitchhiked to Halifax trying to write and learn songs to play when they got there. This was Ursula’s first tour.
Since then, their master violinist was eaten by a pterodactyl, and was replaced by a ukulele playing, cannibalistic kleptomaniac but alas... she ate her own arms.
Now, armed with a backpack full of songs, the Folk-Noir duo plays for horrified audiences whenever they can. Pirate Radio , Coffee Shops, House shows, all ages spaces and hobo masquerades under bridges, they have toured from coast to coast getting their catchy tunes stuck in everyone’s head.
They have been described as “of the “morbid” genre” , “Capitan Beefheart meets Billie Holiday” and “too punk for the folks, too folk for the punks"
