Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, Showtunes, Rob Thomas, lately I've been getting a lot of mileage out of my "the world is a dark, depressing, draining place and you just made it worse I hope you die" playlist including favorites like Morrissey, Alanis Morissette, Bloodhound Gang, REM and choice selections from other indie rock faves like David Gray, Blue October, Damien Rice, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, etc. What can I say, it's a mood that comes and goes.
Lately my friends have turned me on to dub step and other forms of drum & bass. I can't say I've a loyal fan yet, but it makes for a nice night of dancing (and not like the crappy techno-pop I heard all the time at gay clubs).
Movies
Serenity, X-Men, I have a strange fascination with all movies based on comic books, also love sappy gay love stories and indie flicks.
Television
All time: Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Scrubs, South Park
What I'm watching these days: Ugly Betty, Heroes, Battlestar Gallactica, Grey's Anatomy
What I watch if I happen to be home: How I Met Your Mother, The Class, Greek, Desperate Housewives
Books
Love Mercedes Lackey, Guy Gavriel Kay, Neil Gaiman. Usually enjoy Terry Pratchet, Laurell K. Hamilton (early stuff anyway), Jonathan Carroll, Charles de Lint, China Mieville, Christopher Rice, Anne Rice, and Gregory Maguire. If you can't tell, I'm a fan of fantasy...
My latest nonfiction obsessions have been books by George Lakoff (Don't Think of an Elephant!, Whose Freedom?, Thinking Points), Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion), and a variety of books getting into law school or on branding, marketing, public relations and other communications theory.
I'm also a pretty harcore comic book geek. I might as well give half of each paycheck directly to the local comic books stores.
Heroes
Grandpa Joe, Tennessee Williams, Dr. Martin Luther King, Harvey Milk.

About me: I just turned 30 (why, universe, why did you do this to me?). Professional writer/journalist and social activist. While I take my causes and career very seriously, I don't take myself very seriously at all.
FYI, look for my real blog Blind Prophecy (www.jerekeys.com) - the only stuff I post here are short little things, but at my website, you get a whole lot of meaningless drivel.
Who I'd like to meet: No assholes. Also, I actively report spam messages and requests. I will get your spammy-ass account deleted and removed. If you don't want this to happen, don't send me spam messages or friend requests.
Note: Friend requests that don't come with a message of introduction will probably be deleted.
I don't usually add friends here unless I know you in real life. Exceptions are people I've known for a while, those who send thoughtful messages along with a friend request, or people who capture my attention for whatever reason.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Joss Whedon's fans have become legendary for their enthusiasm, activism and outspoken support. This Friday they'll exhibit all three as they gather together to join the picket lines of the writers' strike.
From the very first day of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, fans of writer/creator Joss Whedon have been supporting the writers in their struggle for fair compensation. Within the first week Fans4Writers (F4W), an outreach program for fans of all movies and shows, was created to coordinate efforts to support WGA writers with "Food 4 Thought" food drops to strike lines and morale-boosting campaigns.
Now the fans are coming from around the world to gather together at the site of Whedon's former production company Mutant Enemy, home of such shows as "Angel," "Firefly," and the pop culture phenomenon "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," to demonstrate to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) that viewers demand a fair deal for the writers they respect.
"I couldn't miss this," said C. A. Bridges, a F4W founder who is flying in from central Florida. "They've done so much for us, the chance to give a little back is wonderful."
On Friday, December 7, 2007, an estimated 150 fans will gather together for Mutant Enemy Day to picket in front of FOX Studios. To continue the theme of helping others and the importance of words, Fans4Writers will also be organizing a book and food drive with the theme of "Feed the Mind, Feed the Body." The public is urged to bring books and media materials to be donated to the Santa Monica Public Library, and canned goods and other non-perishable items for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
"We are honored to be involved in helping organize events such as ME Day," said Brenda Lawhorn, another F4W founder traveling to ME Day from Ohio, "to come together not just as fans, wri
