Trio Encompas was formed with a little help from Craig’s List. Jonathan had recently returned to New England and posted an add for people interested in playing music in the vein of, among others, William Parker and Hamid Drake. Larry Gelberg forwarded the add to Thom, and it went from there. As the two were searching for a drummer, Mike came into the picture. As it turns out, Mike and Jonathan had been in a band together years ago. The fit was positive and instant.
Mike is currently one of the busiest drummers in the seacoast. He’s a UNH grad and a phenomenal talent on the drums. He makes any band sound that much better. Mike teaches at several area schools and is also a member of Analog Method, Equal Time and a regular session drummer.
Jonathan was active in the avant garde music scene in Portland, Oregon, before returning home to New England. His bass work is very much in the vein of William Parker and his creativity is influenced greatly by the Dutch avant garde movement. Jonathan spends his days running White Heron Tea, New Hampshire’s only certified organic tea packing business.
Thom was a basement musician until recent years, branching out with several jam session bands, and mixed format billings prior to the forming of Trio Encompas. Thom is the producer of MPBN’s late-night contemporary Jazz show Prime Cuts. He spends his days expanding young minds as a high school social studies teacher.

Is it a shoe thing or hat with me? just kidding but the two tracks that stood out the most and where most enjoyable to me were 'take your shoes off' and 'scary shoes'
hmmm... Maybe because they were scary is why they should take them off or is it just to relax.
these seemed like teaser songs though 'cause they faded out right when the groove was really joining my psyche or vice/versa.
Thanks for adding us. You have a great sound. It is too bad the clips aren't longer. I listened to all of them already. I hope you enjoyed the promo of Faruz Z. Bey on our free show available on iTunes or at jazzstage.us.
BTW....Alex Harding is one of the Detroit cats that could tell you how bad Faruq is.
