Your Representative from California's Interests
General
Movies, music, good books, good conversation, hanging with friends, going out/staying in. Good wine, Italy, travel.
Music
Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Rufus Wainright, Guster, Jason Mraz, Edith Piaf, Third Eye Blind (don't judge me)
Movies
I'm a big movie fan and love both independent and mainstream films. It always bugs me when people call themselves film lovers, but turn their noses up at blockbusters and poo-poo their entertainment value. Give me a break! I sometimes learn how to appreciate a good independent film simply because I've seen the blockbusters. You learn what works and what doesn't and what's heavy-handed and what's subtle.
There are quite a few movies that opened my eyes and taught me things I never imagined, or helped me see things in a new light. I love that.
Television
I watch more reality tv than I should. Sneer at me if you need to, but I am otherwise very well rounded.
I am a sci-fi junkie and am a huge fan of Battelstar Gallactica (the current verison, not the one from the 70s with Lorne Greene, although I liked that one too).
Books
Far, far too many to list. Currently I'm reading simply for pleasure and not for deep thought. Entertain me! Dance monkey, DANCE!
About me: I gave up a promising career in the field of Astrophysics to tour the world with my Zydeco/Bluegrass/Punk Fusion Band "Red Sauce". We cut a few albums but broke up because our manager ran off with the accordianist's wife. It was a tough time for all of us, but I moved on.
I spent a few years studying magic at the University of Vienna (the best magic internships in the world), but quit school when I was recruited to open the first Starbucks in Uzbekistan. We offered a Yak Milk Latte that was to die for.
After leaving Uzbek, I settled for a time in Spain where I sewed matador pants for bullfighters but that left me feeling empty, and I moved back home to raise corn and beets on the family farm. I've been here ever since.
Who I'd like to meet: People who put out. Or people who know how to laugh. Or people who understand why you can't bring a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi to a party unless someone asked you to. Or people who know when it's time to shut up and listen. Or people who like wine. Or people who will watch Masterpiece Theater and Survivor on tv but don't find that incongruous.
People like that.

when we were living in naples, italy, there was a painter, rafeal, who painted this painting and the donor bought the painting. he hung it in the dining room of our italian villa and the only people allowed over were priests, because they were the only ones he trusted around me (more about another time!) they would question the painting, which they thoguht was very seductive hanging in our dining room and in our home with small children around. the donor's response was that he really liked the painting because the young woman looked like she had been raped (swear to geevus). when we divorced he took the painting and eventually sold it at the flea market. it is now hanging in uncle mike's junk shop in johnson park, burney, for the low price of $100 -- it's a steal, i tell ya --- so, being the ass that i am, i took a photo of the painting that's crammed in a corner of the store and sent it to all my babies on the donor's birthday 8/31/07 and said they could get it back for him in honor of his birth!
