Tobias Thomas, Jahrgang 1970, gehört seit den frühen Neunziger Jahren zum engen Kreis des Kölner Elektronik-Labels Kompakt. Als DJ arbeitet er seit 1990, als Produzent war und ist er Teil von Projekten wie Forever Sweet oder Thomas/Mayer und hat gemeinsam mit Olaf Dettinger, Superpitcher, Jörg Burger, Geiger, Michael Mayer und Reinhard Voigt eine Vielzahl an Remixen und eigenen Produktionen veröffentlicht. Als Redakteur des Musikmagazins SPEX betreute er von 2000-2007 die monatliche Tanzmusik-Kolumne »Data Pop« und hat Menschen wie Sven Väth, Westbam, die Pet Shop Boys, Justin Timberlake Depeche Mode, Wolfgang Tillmans oder Erlend Øye interviewt. Gemeinsam mit der gesamten Redaktion verließ Tobias Thomas SPEX, als dieses unter bislang ungeklärten Umständen nach Berlin zog.
Acht Jahre lang, von 1998 – 2006, war Thomas, gemeinsam mit Michael Mayer und Superpitcher, Gastgeber der wöchentlichen Clubnacht »Total Confusion« in Kölns berühmten Studio 672 Club. Außerdem gastiert er als Resident regelmäßig in der Panorama Bar in Berlin und dem Robert Johnson zu Offenbach. Total Confusion findet seit Dezember 2007 jeden ersten Freitag im Monat im Bogen 2 der Kölner Hohenzollernbrücke statt. Im Juli 2008 feiert die Total Confusion-Reihe ihr 10jähriges Jubiläum. Als DJ hat Tobias in 15 Jahren in über zwanzig Ländern und auf vier Kontinenten gespielt. Auf Kompakt erschienen sind die Mix-CDs »Für Dich« (1999), »Smallville« (2003) und »Please Please Please« (2007), von Forever Sweet gibt es das Album »Geben & Nehmen« (Ladomat, 1998).
Seit 2007 arbeitet Tobias Thomas als Redakteur und Programm-Assistent beim Kölner Musikfestival c/o pop.
Tobias Thomas, born 1970, is a member of the inner circle of the Cologne based electronic label Kompakt since the early nineties. He is working as a DJ since 1990, was involved in many cooperations & projects like Forever Sweet, Thomas/Mayer and did a number of remixes alongside Dettinger, Superpitcher, Jörg Burger, Geiger, M.Mayer and Reinhard Voigt. As a former editor for the german music magazine SPEX he..s done interviews with Sven Väth, the Pet Shop Boys, Westbam, Depeche Mode, Wolfgang Tillmans, Erlend Øye, Justin Timberlake and many others. Together with all other editors he left SPEX for good in the end of 2006 as a reaction to its mysterious move to Berlin.
For eight years, from 1998 to 2006, he was hosting the weekly »Total Confusion«-night with Michael Mayer and Superpitcher in the famous Studio 672 club in Cologne (other resident nights include the Panoramabar in Berlin and the Robert Johnson in Offenbach). As a DJ he played in more than twenty countries and on four continents. He released three Mix-CDs, »Für Dich« (1999), »Smallville« (2003) and »Please Please Please« on Kompakt and – with Forever Sweet – the album »Geben & Nehmen« on Ladomat (1998).
Since the beginning of 2007 Total Confusion found a new monthly home in a place called "Bogen2" in Cologne, part of a very old bridge beside the world famous cathedral. check: www.totalconfusion.de
Since he stopped working as a music journalist Tobias is part of the Cologne music festival c/o pop (www.c-o-pop.de), where he works as an editor and program assistant.
