The subtle and powerful energy of the UNIVERSE.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------THE TEACHINGS OF THE GITA BEGIN WITH THE TRUE KNOWLEDGE OF SPIRIT
AND THE PHYSICAL BODY
Lord Krishna said: You grieve for those who are not worthy of grief, and yet speak words of wisdom. The wise grieves neither for the living nor for the dead. (2.11)
There was never a time when these monarchs, you, or I did not exist; nor shall we ever cease to exist in the future. (2.12)
Just as the soul acquires a childhood body, a youth body, and an old age body during this life; similarly, the soul acquires another body after death. This should not delude the wise. (See also 15.08) (2.13)
The contacts of the senses with the sense objects give rise to the feelings of heat and cold, and pain and pleasure. They are transitory and impermanent. Therefore, one should learn to endure them. (2.14)
Because a calm person ¾ who is not afflicted by these sense objects, and is steady in pain and pleasure ¾ becomes fit for salvation. (2.15)
THE SPIRIT IS ETERNAL, BODY IS TRANSITORY
The invisible Spirit (Atma, Atman) is eternal, and the visible physical body, is transitory. The reality of these two is indeed certainly seen by the seers of truth. (2.16)
The Spirit by whom this entire universe is pervaded is indestructible. No one can destroy the imperishable Spirit. (2.17)
The physical bodies of the eternal, immutable, and incomprehensible Spirit are perishable. Therefore fight, O Arjuna. (2.18)
The one who thinks that the Spirit is a slayer, and the one who thinks the Spirit is slain, both are ignorant. Because the Spirit neither slays nor is slain. (2.19)
The Spirit is neither born nor does it die at any time. It does not come into being, or cease to exist. It is unborn, eternal, permanent, and primeval. The Spirit is not destroyed when the body is destroyed. (2.20)
O Arjuna, how can a person who knows that the Spirit is indestructible, eternal, unborn, and immutable, kill anyone or causes anyone to be killed? (2.21)
THE INDESTRUCTIBLE SPIRIT TRANSCENDS MIND AND SPEECH
Some look upon this Spirit as a wonder, another describes it as wonderful, and others hear of it as a wonder. Even after hearing about it very few people know what the Spirit is. (See also KaU 2.07) (2.29)
O Arjuna, the Spirit that dwells in the body of all beings is eternally indestructible. Therefore, you should not mourn for anybody. (2.30)

Born in Germany, I came to the US in 1982 and made it my home. Reading was my main hobby from an early age and the tool to learn the english language in the long hours of solitude as a military dependant.(I'm to this day, though, the lousiest speller I know. Bet you could never tell!...) Eventualy on my own, I used writing to work through inner turmoil and put my demons as well as my angels into lyrics. Being diagnosed with a terminal infliction, (other than life ),I used my writing skills to see myself once again through a challenging time. Other people found, to my surprise, solace in the words I'd written as well, and so I decided to become a poet " full time". Luckily I don't have to depend on it for my survival,(I figured out, I would have to sell about 93,000 000 000 copys of my chapbook just to pay my medical bills !). Many fine authors have influenced my writing, among them Tess Gallagher, Jane Kenyon, Mary Oliver, Louise Glueck, Annie Dillard, Octavio Paz, Jack Gilbert and many more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diagnosed with advanced colon cancer on her birthday in 2005, Sylvia Thompson discovered the healing power of creative writing through her illness. She teaches meditation, Reiki, Chakra and Color Therapy and takes part in a women's Kabbalah study group in her community. Her book "In the Garden of Illness I sit by the Well of Hope" is available through
SHADOW POETRY or you may have a special expanded version printed just for you through LULU. For more samples of Sylvia's poetry go to Author's Den. Her book is also available at Barnes and Noble.com and Amazon.com

Then listen to GAS 58, her 2nd interview. (High speed connection advised).......................................................................................................
*** As of March 21, 2008 this is now a memorial and celebration site. All those who have been touched by Sylvia's life may send their comments, memories, praises or poems inspired by her to Belinda Subraman and I will post them in her blog. If you happen to have a My Space site, of course, you can already add comments to blog entries on your own. ***

Thanks for adding me. ¶ Love, but not blindly — don't confuse it with sleep. Love all people, but not all ideas; think to distinguish helpful ideas from hurtful ones. We must end our culture of destruction before it ends us. ¶ Our many problems have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, & murderers — particularly those in public office — believe people are motivated only by greed & fear. They want us to share that belief, because they use it to justify themselves & to manipulate us. That belief shapes the world's political & economic systems, perpetuating war & poverty. But you & I have found something better inside ourselves & our friends. It's in everyone, even tank drivers & bomber pilots, if we can just wake them: we're all one flesh & blood. Let us spread that insight, for until we do our other advances will be minor & temporary. The outcome of the ideological struggle is not yet determined, so no one can afford to be just a spectator. Join the global conversation. ¶ The Iraq war, like most wars, was based on lies, & now the occupation is making new enemies faster than it can kill them; that's helpful only to arms dealers & politicians. Ending the occupation won't change much — the next war is already being planned. (Same war, new location!) The economy is all wrong too: the rich get richer & fewer, everyone else gets screwed, & the ecosystem gets trashed. These problems are not new, but lately they've become so blatant that we've begun to understand them. It's time to end the military-industrial complex & the corporatocracy. We the people must control government, & government must control business, not the other way around. A good start would be transparency in government, public financing of election campaigns, trustbusting the news media, & ending corporate personhood. ¶ Question authority. Keep fighting, loving, hoping, singing. Hand in hand, we may still be able to heal the world. — Love, Eric

In beauty may I walk. All day long may I walk. Through the returning seasons may I walk.
Beautifully will I possess again. Beautifully birds . . . Beautifully joyful birds On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk. With dew about my feet may I walk. With beauty may I walk. With beauty before me, may I walk. With beauty behind me, may I walk. With beauty above me, may I walk. With beauty below me, may I walk. With beauty all around me, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk. In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
It is finished in beauty. It is finished in beauty.
A Navajo Indian Prayer of the Second Day of the Night Chant (anonymous)
The soul and love became united, Then into this realm they both came, Together they’re always undivided, Joined forever their source the same.
After the two were mingled and blended, In a mixing that took place in such a way, That all their boundaries were transcended, Since then united they have always remained.
And so it was in this amazing manner, That love and the soul were forever blended, Joined by the One Who is the best Planner, Both vanish in this mixture so splendid.
From the very strength of this blended state, The soul with love has become united, Which is the essence and which is the trait, I don’t see how this could be decided.
Maybe it’s love that’s become the essence, While it’s attribute may be the soul, Not knowing which has become the quintessence, I can’t say which one plays which role.
I can’t really say if it’s this way or that, I just don’t know what it is in the end, There’s no other way I can’t be exact, This mixture is such a wonderful blend.
The result of this process was awesome indeed, Both love and the soul forever connected, The two of them speak and the words each one heeds, Mingled and blended together protected.
The basis of love is said to be fire, While the soul is derived from the wind, The wind itself it ignites this blazing fire, And the fire then consumes the wind again.
I am giving you nothing and taking away nothing, only pointing to that which you already are. Don't leave here thinking, "I think I experienced emptiness." - Papaji
