Michael, singer and guitarist of the Years says it all, "Playing with my best friend's son and my girlfriend is the greatest thing I have ever experienced."
Michael, 35, Emily, 25 and Rom, a young drummer of 16 summers, just prove that "you can still form a band without wearing fringes, ties, and drainpipe jeans". Indeed, after having listened to their debut EP "pROCKaganda!" recorded 4 months after the birth of the band, it seems like all they care about is playing music with all the raw power and soul required to make a song sound urgent and smart. A bit of The Minutemen or The Clash, coupled with a modern edge, their music fits no current trends. "There are so many bands we love, both old and new", Michael continues "the funny thing is that we'd really like to sound like them but we're simply not able to. It can be quite disappointing in some ways but we now have these songs, and we like them the way they are. Does it make sense?" The Years are quite down-to-earth and self-conscious about what they call "a sort of happy-go-lucky friendship". Emily adds: "Before we started, I didn't know how to play the bass and Michael switched from bass to guitar, he's always sung in his former bands but Rom is actually the only genuine musician". It's quite astounding how the songs sound in less than one year. Rom : “Make songs and record em as soon as possible. Love the formula”. Many gigs since then. They opened in 2007 for Chris Wilson -singer and guitarist of the Flaming Groovies, and experienced two packed out nights at the famous 12 Bar Club in central London which eventually led to the idea of releasing the White Teeth EP with the help of their mancunian friends at BabyBoom Records. Many gigs are to come for sure so keep an eye out...
