Jeff Stairs surely's Interests
|
| Music | I'm a sucker for a good melody and a catchy rhythm, be it folk, pop, latin, rock, jazz. If words are sung, I prefer that they are honest and meaningful.
Warning: Musical moods are subject to change. | | Movies | I occasionally shut off the brain and just enjoy sci-fi/action. Not a great fan of Romance, as marriage is never given respectful treatment in these films.
I don't stay right up-to-the-minute on the latest movies, but I'll usually dig something with some real character development, and especially some twists. I've enjoyed M.Night Shyamalan's stuff, for instance. I also really enjoyed The Game, with Michael Douglas; K-Pax, with Kevin Spacey; The Score, with Edward Norton; and Seabiscuit, with Tobey Maguire.
It's rare for me to leave a theater stunned by a really significant film. In fact, I have no recent memory of that happening. | | Television | Television ain't good for much except Seinfeld re-runs. Well, it's also good for watching DVD concerts of musicians still going strong after twenty-some odd years - guys like Toto, Rush, Phil Collins and Saga. That's kind of inspiring. | | Books | Aw, what can I say? Anything that makes me think and feel more deeply. Zondervan's "Counterpoints" series is a total trip!

Jeff Stairs surely's Blurbs |
About me:
Once upon a time, I was Canadian. That was fun while it lasted, but summer is never long enough in Toronto, so I moved to Florida. Good move, eh?
I've played drums since I was twelve-ish (not counting the years of pounding on boxes), but only in the last decade or so have I pursued an artistic career under the assumption that it is the field in which I am most qualified. Stay tuned: I've got a lot of catching up to do, and I'm working on it.
** You can hear a few short solo grooves at gopromusic.com (you'll need to track me down under the Orlando listings).
Y'know, I just love a winter drive with the tunes a'rolling, and the windows down with the heat on (a curious rush of cool and warmth at once). Add to that a hot cup of freshly brewed, french press organic coffee with a splash of goat's milk, and a few morsels of high-quality dark chocolate (50 to 65% cocoa content) and I don't suppose you could offer me finer bliss in this world.
Let me mention one other thing. If I never land a career as a musician; if I never capture the heart of an affectionate, virtuous and trustworthy woman who makes delightful wiggly-folk (yes, babies); indeed, if I drop dead before I finish typing this, I will leap for wild joy in the throne room of my creator and king, who rescued a pathetic self-infatuated clot of steaming rebellion and made him a treasured conquest. You gotta love a God like that. Read all about him in the Scriptures he breathed out, known around here as the "Bible". When you're stuck, read stuff by dead guys known as the "puritans". Hey, whaddaya know? I didn't drop dead.
