For as long as I can remember, I have always had a ravenous appetite for movies, good and bad. Some of my favorites are: Silence of the Lambs, Pulp Fiction, Seven, Magnolia, The Wizard of Oz, The Godfather, Goodfellas, Almost Famous, Back to the Future, High Fidelity, The Big Lebowski, Adaptation, The Empire Strikes Back, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and '80s John Hughes movies. I used to always think there was a disconnect between the critics and the average movie going public. Until I woke up one day and noticed that a lot of my tastes had aligned with those of conventional critics. Even still, I have a fondness for those B-movies I used to watch in the middle of the night on cable years ago. I now realize that all I have ever wanted out of movies was to be entertained. Not every movie is designed to win awards - nor should they be. But my motto has always been, "If you can't appreciate the trash, you shouldn't be watching movies in the first place."
I’m just a regular dude from the midwest. I am the guy who will watch Goodfellas and follow it up with The Toxic Avenger. The guy who holds Back to the Future and The Empire Strikes Back in relatively equal regard. The guy who didn’t like Forrest Gump. The guy who didn’t claim to have a clue what was going on at the end of Donnie Darko. I am a movie critic... and there's The Rub.
I couldn't sleep much. The film had everything. Ledger made me forget about Nicholson within seconds. Ledger was incredible on every level. We witnessed an epic birth last night.
