We are now seeking contributors for the Lost Weekend: 2008.
As we start looking to January 2008 it is time to clear the slab and prep
the table for the next event.
We are thankful to Ramzi Abed and The 1947 project for their contributions to
last years dazzling event, it was quite the weekend.
Now we embark on reinventing ourselves with a new theme.
Because of the anniversary date-
the Dahlia will always be the centerpiece, but my desire to look broader and reach wider deepens.
This year I am using the theme of
"the romance of criminal iconography"
exploring the romanticism that is projected on crime and violence -
especially when looking back on the past.
I sincerely hope that in 2008 my consorts and myself can
offer up an even more depthy experience about
not just the murder of Elizabeth Short,
but what this crime has come to mean as an icon
of Los Angeles.
The Lost Weekend does not subscribe to any particular theory about the murder or the suspects.
We at all times aim to present an even handed exploration of all ideas about
what could have happened to this young woman that night in 1947.
As a writer and an artist I focus on with this weekender is exploring the WHY?
Why do all these people have books, theories and this great passion to be the person who solves this ?
Why does this unremarkable young woman captivate us so?
It's not the who and how.
It is the WHY?
