"The Last Skeptik's beats are expertly crafted" Q Magazine 2007
It is a widely known fact that no self respecting humanoid enjoys reading biographies. If you are a fan of the artist, you know their history anyway, and if you don’t know who they are, you probably read semi-correct rumours on Wikipedia.
The Last Skeptik knows and understands this fact, and chooses to reach out to you, the God-fearing interested public, with the following: a brief history of his musical, literary and media honed career.
Building his first beats in high school alongside the charismatic luminary Sway, Skeptik consistently worked on his skills until releasing a number of 12”s in the days when 12” singles sold, and mp3s were a thing of mythical legend. The first of which, featured ‘Prior To The Present’ featuring Sway, and first alerted the public to his MPC wizardry. An E.P co-starring Chain of Command’s Conflix followed, with the A Side ‘Think Twice’ demonstrating a different side to a production powerhouse in the making.
Constantly on the grind, Skeptik established himself as a revered radio show host, budding journo, as well as beat making hustler. The DustyCratesRadio show ran as a podcast with guests from Percee P to Stig Of The Dump, garnering 20,000 downloads to date globally, and building a supportive listenership to Skep’s insane banter aligned with exclusives not even the major stations had. On the writing tip, Skeptik has written for Empire film magazine, Total Spec, Undercover, HipHopConnection, UKHH.com and 3BarFire.com, for whom he dishes out a fortnightly column entitled ‘Under The Patio’ which has gained an online cult following for its caustic wit and sarcastic rumbles.
In late 2007, Skeptik put together a feature length collaboration with long time friend Verb T. Entitled ‘Broken Window’, the album featured guest appearances from Jehst, Edo G, Kashmere and more, including the radio rinsed ‘March’ featuring Sway and Kyza. The single from the album, ‘Satisfied’, gained constant rotation on Channel U, and plays on major stations including Radio 1 and Kiss FM. The album itself was critically acclaimed and appeared in the Evening Standard, Metro, Q Magazine, RWD among others.
As a solo producer, to date, Skeptik has laced instrumentals for rappers including MF Grimm (on his 3LP American Hunger), and a who’s who of homegrown emcees, such as Jehst, Stig, and Skrein. As a DJ, Skeptik has performed alongside and on stage with such modern luminaries as Damon Albarn, Kano, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Shlomo, Terri Walker and Tony Allen among others
Now working on several projects, including a solo album (with Skep on both the beats and rhymes) and a leftfield longplayer, the main focus is on a brand new mysteriously named release that will no doubt make a lot of the straight up mean mugging individuals raise an eyebrow. Entitled ‘Escape From Badger Mountain’, not much is known about the release, apart from the fact it is entirely instrumental, and will be released on Billy Brimstone’s YNR label in 2008.
