Madison Band The Gomers Wants Your Help in Making Best Wisconsin Video Ever.
What if you took the renowned Johnny Cash song "I Been Everywhere," the song that mentions many of the cities Mr. Cash played in across America, but made every location a different city in Wisconsin?
Thats exactly what The Gomers from Madison have done on their new CD called "Mike Zirkel The Album."
Their song "I Been Over Dere" features the names of 113 Wisconsin cities, including some of the Wisconsin cities that are in the Cash original.
"Sure, Johnny's version is cool, mentioning Baraboo and Fon du Lac. But c'mon, our version has Clam Lake, Hub City, Pewaukee and Butternut. Isn't it time for Pipersville to get their props?" asks Gomers guitarist Steve Burke who penned the tribute tune. "No disrespect to the Man in Black, but pound for pound, our version just may be cooler."
So now its time to make the music video to "I Been Over Dere," and The Gomers are asking for your help.
Gomers strings player Biff Blumfumgagnge says, "We're looking for people to submit photos and video of the cities in the song to help us tell the story. City limits signs, those crazy giant ox, cheese and mouse statues, the beautiful physical geography, all the quirky stuff that makes Wisconsin such a fun state. We will not rest until we have made the best Wisconsin video ever."
The band will send the submitted material to New York City, where Mark Hervey, an original member of The Gomers, will edit the video. Some of Hervey's recent work includes Parking Wars, Dog the Bounty Hunter, King of Cars, and Family Plots. Hervey also edited The Gomers 2007 smash hit video "Hard Days Night of the Living Dead," where they claim to be The Zombeatles.
Over 1,000,000 viewers worldwide have seen their hilarious homage to zombies and The Beatles on YouTube. It was one of the most watched videos on YouTube when heavy metal guru (and horror movie maker) Rob Zombie recommended it last Halloween.
Guidelines to follow for submitting your original photos and videos: Photos can be submitted electronically in almost any format like jpg and tiff, the bigger the file size, the better. Video can be up to 60 seconds in length. Links to images and video can be sent as well. All images must be copyright-free. By submitting images, you're giving The Gomers permission to use your images. Submissions and questions can be emailed to beeftone@gmail.com.
The Gomers have been an institution in Madison since 1986. They've won the Madison Area Music Awards best cover band the past three years; they've had two Madison mayors honor them for their service to the community. And currently they host the wildly popular Rock Star Gomeroke, live band karaoke that boasts over 2,000 songs to choose from. About to enter its third year, it runs six shows a month at the High Noon Saloon in Madison.
The song can be heard (and downloaded for free) at www.myspace.com/thegomers. Here are the lyrics:

"Mike Zirkel The Album" is available on iTunes, at CD Baby and at B-Side Records on State Street and Madcity Music in the Gateway Mall in Madison. The Gomers reside online at www.thegomers.net. The album is named after engineer Mike Zirkel of Smart Studios. Mike engineered The Gomers previous album, but the band failed to credit him. Naming the next album after him was the least they could do, despite the fact that Mr. Zirkel did not engineer the album named after him.

"One of the best bands I ever saw, a legendary and inestimably important band, but more than that. Not so much a band as - well, more like a squad of gods. A God Squad. A full-on, balls-out God Squad of Rock."
I had so much fun on Tuesday singing "Welcome to the Machine!!!!" I knew you would do awesome things with it. When I've played it with my band before, we've used a flour sifter, and other kitchen tools to make strange noises... but you guys make terrific weird noises without flour sifters!!! I would be ever so flattered, if you wanted to come check us out this Saturday at Escape at 8:00. No flour sifters, unfortunately...
Hey, I really mean it. When are you guys coming to the Tampa area. You could crash on my moms couch. I'm sure she wouldn't mind. You'd get used to the cabbage smell. It's not that bad, really.
excellent cd release party- i stayed awake the whole time and barely fell over. eric says dvd's of the show may become available at the nextrockstaroke.
I wish that you still had that "Head Rush" cut on here... My friend who is in the Peace Corps in Albania and who is a huge Rush fan really wanted to hear it. You guys rock, by the way.
