UPDATE: We had a blast guest appearing at this year's 2008 Kokua Festival with Paula Fuga. Keep posted, we've got news songs and we're playing them at gigs. So see ya around! Love, The Girlas
The Girlas consist of 3 women working together to perform original music with a mix of folk, acoustic, blues, soul, and bluegrass. Of these women are:
Candy Diaz Yasuda: a singer/song writer with a penchant for old torch jazz Carly Smith: a singer/song writer with a heavy background in bluegrass as well as the daughter of reknown bluegrass musician Ty Smith Kelli Heath: a singer/song writer with amazing talent for guitar composition, slack key, and witty lyrics.
Under the collective title, The Girlas, Kelli, Candy, & Carly began collaborating amongst one another to create a genre of music that incorporates all aspects of their individual skill.
The debut release of “Now of Never” was met with much appreciated enthusiam. Jamie Winnpenny of the Honolulu Weekly wrote, “Their lyrical content is poignant rather than preachy, their instrumental prowess is informed rather than forced and their harmonies are inspired.” Wayne Harada of the Honolulu Advertiser said, “"The harmonies are sweet; the lingering passions sweeter. Think Na Leo with attitude and soul. The Girlas are great because they're both unpredictable and prolific." John Berger of the Star Bulletin had this to say, “Each introspective composition seems more exquisite than the other. Whether they're singing of heartbreak,
troubled relationships or an enigmatic encounter with angels, the Girlas are an enchanting discovery for fans of smooth pop music.”
Blessed to have shared the stage with names like Hapa, Herb Ohta Jr, Maki Ohguro, Don Carlos, Johnny Winter, Victoria Vox, & Ernie Halter, The Girlas recently participated in Jack Johnson’s 2007 Kokua Festival alongside Matt Costa, Ernie Cruz. Jr, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, and Jack Johnson as well as Paula Fuga’s 1st Lilikoi Fair alongside Tempo Valley, LAWA, Anuhea Jenkins, Climbing PoeTree, Sparlha Swa, and Paula herself (in hopes to raise money for The Lilikoi Foundation, a to be erected support system for women in transition) They are currently recording material and can be found gigging and touring in Hawaii & the continental US.
Hey,
Thanks for the support. Below is a link to download 10 tracks off of my upcoming album "Rocking Bodies and Blowing Minds", It's original as fuck and well produced. Take a listen and tell me what you think. If you know any dynamic vocalists that would like to have a spot on the album, let me know, and if they fit the bill, i may have them sing on it.
Thanks!

Hi! Just wanted you to know that my new CD "It's a wonderful world...if you're rich" is out and that you can get it on CD Baby. Link: http://cdbaby.com/cd/fyraett Greetings! The Key
Calling all good-hearted folks who would like to join forces on a project that will bring people from various walks of life TOGETHER to help uplift our community- spiritually & culturally~
My vision for this project is to connect all organizations whose aim is to help our community. I would like to see projects such as Paula Fuga's LILIKOI HOUSE come to fruition, helping women in transition... Juliet Lighter's DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT develop into strong organizations... HALAU KU MANA whose mission is to integrate Hawaiian culture back to into education... These are only a few organizations--- I CALL ON ALL OF YOU TO STEP OUT & REACH OUT.
I challenge people that share different spiritual, cultural, political & educational backgrounds to come together and perpetuate the ALOHA that came before us.
Homelessness is a growing social problem here in Hawaii and I would like to create a once a year event where everyone can come together to work on this issue, bring their ideas and find resolutions for this and its related social issues. There are various reasons why people end up on the streets; nevertheless, the homeless are an important part of our community. Some of us are more fortunate than the next; and while Hawaii is flourishing, with its big money plans & wonderous developments... we must remember what is happening to the people of the land.
Through cultural education and availability of resources, we can all take responsibility and join together to help people help themselves in more ways than one.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE ANY COMMENTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
ALTHOUGH THIS PROJECT MAY SEEM INTIMIDATING AND OVERWHELMING, I'D RATHER DIE TRYING... SO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO JUMP ON THE BUS, HOLLA.
XO, PAISLEY.
*An event will take place @ WAIMEA AUDOBON with the date TBA (to be arranged) because I would like to let this project evolve and mature on its own before presenting it to the public.
