Started as a project featuring members from various San Diego mainstays, The Gift/Curse is now burgeoning into a full force creative element to be reckoned with, complete with its own identity and sound. Everything from Ryan Adams to Helmet is represented by this four piece. Lead singer Noel Jordan's howling vocals are backed by an explosive rhythm section headed up by Danny King on drums, and Ismael Velazquez on bass. The band is rounded out by intricate yet driven guitar work by both Kelsey McNair and Noel. Songs of death, despair, self-destruction, bliss and confusion are among the gauntlet of emotions portrayed by Noel's lyrics and further felt by the expansive sounds put forth by this emerging band. The Gift/Curse are halled up in their studio busy crafting a batch of songs to record for their debut album, and meanwhile, they will be testing out new material across the city over the next few months. Life is a Gift and a Curse and these songs, with the way they are played, never made it seem more apparent.
