In their 9 years of existence, TGP have seen more than your average band…Coming together fresh out of high school the band found themselves catapulted on to the Australian punk-rock music scene and within a year of their existence had already been a part of 3 successful national tours alongside some of Australia’s biggest acts in the scene at the time. With only a 6 track demo to their name, the band very quickly made a name for themselves nationwide and garnered a strong underground following.

In 2005, The Getaway Plan released their debut EP, Hold Conversation, which only further established them as one of Australia’s biggest up and coming acts at the time. Before finishing the EP cycle, the band had taken part in 8 national tours, including 2 sold-out headline runs.

In 2007 the band flew to Orlando, Florida to begin working on their debut LP with producer James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Paramore). ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ was released on the 14th of February 2008 and made it’s debut at #14 on the ARIA charts. The band saw great success with the release of hit single “Where The City Meets The Sea” seeing a huge amount of air and television play including an appearance on Rove Live in 2008. The band went on to sell out multiple headline tours across the country and also included appearances on many festivals including Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock and Homebake.

In 2009, when seemingly at the top of their game, The Getaway Plan shocked fans when they announced that they had decided to call it quits with little to no explanation. They went on to play a final farewell tour, selling out a huge run of shows including 7 sold out Hi-Fi Bar shows in Melbourne and 3 UNSW Roundhouse shows in Sydney.

As it later was revealed to media, the band was simply not ready for the amount of fame that came their way, and coming straight from school in to heavy touring, they felt they needed to live different lives. They had no intention of returning to TGP, but after 2 years of silence, the band announced a one off reunion show for charity at Billboards in Melbourne in 2010. TWLOHA

The show went on to sellout within minutes and the band found themselves overwhelmed by the response. Within a few months TGP had announced their official reformation and plans to release a new record in 2011.

After a sold out national reunion tour in February 2011, the band then flew to Toronto, Canada to begin recording their follow up LP ‘Requiem’ with Grammy award winning producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Placebo). The album was released in November, 2011. After two years off the scene, The Getaway Plan’s ‘Requiem’ made it’s debut at #17 on the ARIA charts and the band went on to back it up with a solid 2 years of successful touring including more appearances at Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock and regional tour, Groovin’ The Moo.

The band made their way to UK/Europe for the first time in September 2012 to play alongside US band Pierce The Veil. They have since returned twice being given the support slots for both Sleeping with Sirens and Anberlin tours.

In 2013, TGP announced they had parted ways with long time record label and management making them an entirely independent band for the first time since their inception. The band celebrated this with their first ever independent release- A double A-sided single titled “Lovesick/Mirrors”.

The Getaway Plan are currently away writing material for album #3 with a highly anticipated release date pinned for mid 2015 and hopes are high that they will yet again prove they are still one of Australia’s most exciting bands.
