I got this layout from topbun The Figments started going steady after being set up on a blind date. Twelve years later, they are still advocates of the "open marriage" model.
In autumn of '95, through an avalanche of happenstance, the four Figments
found themselves in the same room for the first time. Looking around at
the potluck of carnage (tupperwear, stuntmen, lesson plans, expensive
lampshades, baconhearts, etc etc) they had no choice but count it off
slowly. And repeatedly. Welcome to Northampton, MA. Do you feel like we
do?
The history of the band can be divided into something resembling this:
1996-97--record and release debut ep The Figments Won't Hurt You. Recorded
at Studio .45, Hartford, CT by David Shuman and Thom Monahan.
(some of this ep would resurface on "Broken Time" cd)
1998-2001--various sessions (with T. Monahan, Frank Padellaro, David
Shuman), tons of gigs. NYC becomes second home. Broken Time is sort of
released. All the Gone Days is very much released.
2002-2005-- wha happened? marriage, prostitution, "Rehab", divorce,
Lindens. No, the band as a whole didn't take well to (choose one)
neo-fascism; Bjork's a cappella album; Jennifer Aniston's inability to settle down.
2006--Blood forms on the clouds. No one has any gauze so...
2007--Blood on the Clouds is released. Recorded by David Shuman.
Though fate has often tried to intercede, The Figments have held on to the
same line up for 12 years.
Thane Thomsen- songs, voice, guitar
Matthew Zapruder- guitar, voice
Trace Meek- bass, voice
Brian Marchese- drums, percussion
Only half the band are any good on ice skates.

I have a radio show on 90.7 WTCC, the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at 8pm. More details and my mailing address are in my blog. Please check it out. I'm seeking local music to play on the show.
Hey, kids, I am in need of two minor classics of American Literature to complete the next installment of "The Chunk Records Story," namely David Berman's liner notes for the Scud Mountain Boys' Pine Box LP and Stephen Malkmus's liners for the Push Kings' 7-inch Slow Down, This is Not Monte Carlo.
I realize these records were limited editions, scarce as hen's teeth and all that, but if any of you out there have copies, please email scans or transcriptions to jm@jmdobies.com.
I promise I will give attribution when the Chunk Story gets published in MOJO!
There's a kind of music, a type of music, a sort of music, a style of music, a place in one's music-listening HABIT that brings one back to one's archtype-al bands. It transcends genre, it transcends spelling. It is so fuckin' cool. All hail the Figments. What kind of music do you play?
Life is good at Ashmont, except around this time of year, when they put a hat on me and think it’s funny. I suppose it’s a small price to pay for food in my belly and a roof over my head. My resolution for 2007 has to do with the restoration of my dignity. Anyway, best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.
Guys,
Great new song (Protest Snore). Just woke up, having a cup of green tea and it was the perfect buffer between my brain and the laptop screen. I love The Figments.
