The classic Thrash Metal style as birthed in the early 80’s is coming back to life with a new modern-day intensity in 2008, and it’s in the form of The Edge of Beyond. Powerful Progressive elements backed by Symphonic based compositions, shredding guitars and dark melodic lyrics make up their epic sound, which when combined with their dominating stage presence even turns the heads of listeners who do not typically consider themselves metal fans. With the line-up completed earlier in the year, these 4 individuals dedicated to technicality in musicianship combine to invoke a sonic assault on the senses.
The brainchild of mastermind composer/guitarist Razael Wickham, the band came into fruition in 2003, and consists of music telling the story of the 9-part saga written by Wickham entitled “The Edge of Beyond”. Wickham teamed up with the blistering guitarist Jerry Cleary in 2004, but after 5 years of song-writing and unsuccessful attempts to find a complete line-up of talented musicians in their small Missouri town, it became clear that to find a bassist and drummer of any dynamic character, the two would have relocate to a larger area: Thrashville, Tennessee.
Once in Nashville, and after only a 3-month search, Wickham and Cleary found themselves face-to-face with the percussive maniac Zakk Dubwah, whose raw natural talent on a 9-piece kit was destined to be a part of the group. The band would have another stroke of luck when only two months after finding Dubwah, they’d stumble upon the monstrous bass guitar styling of Keith McQuarrie.
The bands EP entitled “Warhorses of the Dawn” contains 5 tracks, including the most well known songs Warhorses of the Dawn and Shadow Heart, as heard on the Missouri radio station 100.1 The Buzz (KBBM-FM). This radio play lead to winning the station’s Hometown Buzz Awards by a landslide of votes in October 2004, and solidifying a respectable reputation in the mid-Missouri area.
The group was recently selected as the Band of the Month for the May issue of American Gothique Magazine. The article featured the band bio, and an interview with several of the guys.
Having disgust with today’s metal scene, with its screaming vocals and simplistic guitar playing, it is the bands goal to bring back music that not only makes a point, but has something for the scorned and quick-witted to relate to.
“Our goal is to not worry so much about reaching the top of the charts, but to make music that really means something. Music should help people with their everyday lives and influence the listener on a personal, musical, and artistic level. We want to make real music that’s going to get you stirred up and make you think. Our music affects you in such a way that it becomes symbolic yet elemental, where it will always be remembered and never destroyed or forgotten. Though having apocalyptic, fantasy-styled themes, the music does not stray from relation to the audience. One of the things we have aimed to do, since the music is based on the The Edge Of Beyond story, was to make sure that it followed the storyline, while being universal in the subject matter.” -Razael Wickham
With the bands newly formed touring alliance with the complimentary sounds of the band Oblivion Myth, The Edge of Beyond stands poised and ready to hit the scene hard and bring the credibility back into the world of Metal.
