In a time of amnesia in America, The Dirty Diamond brings remembrance. The music is raw, emotional, good old fashioned rock without a smidgen of emo or indie embellishments. Their honest vocal melodies, strong lyrics, and live energy pay tribute to classic rock and the blues, with Beatlesque undertones. For all the classic influences of their sound, it never once feels retro, but still very vintage. However, their innovative musicianship wins through to create something thoroughly modern. They like to call it “Brand New Vintage”.
The Dirty Diamond founded in the fall of 2005 by Sam Babayan and Adam Stackpole, the band started as a collaborative effort to make the best songs possible. Adam was a transplant from Seattle looking for a new musical path. Sam was an LA native with a clear direction and unwavering focus. Their sound was quickly augmented by Chris Jago on drums, whose English roots (raised in Liverpool) and musical savvy brought this band to new heights. Quickly, with the addition of Lee Butterfield on bass and Hiuro Mardirosian ..s, the band became a force to be reckoned with. Hiuro brings textures reminiscent of Pink Floyd. Butterfield’s contribution cannot be understated as well. A graduate of Cornish Jazz School and a veteran of countless touring and studio acts, his playing only embellished the rootsy, deep sound developing among this quintet. The band has released a full 8 song disc as well as a 4 song ep, and they are currently working on their second effort. They can currently be found as a beautiful reality in several Southern California venues. Their live show is where this act comes to life, don’t miss it!
