PUPPET LABORATORY (FOR ADULTS!) - Carl P. Weiting Wednesdays, January 30-March 26. 7:00-9:30 PM. 8 weeks. $190 (No class February 20.) Can you really see the soul of an old lady in a tomato? What is the 4,084th use for felt and a coat hanger? This class will answer these questions and more as you learn to create and manipulate puppets in several styles: marionettes, toy theatre, rod puppets, and found objects. Historical discussions inspire you and remind you that puppets aren’t just for kids! Finally, Carl will guide you as you create an original solo or collaborative show. Students will have the opportunity to present at the March 21 Blood from a Turnip, RI’s Only Late Night Puppet Salon. Tuition includes $10 materials fee.
Carl P. Weiting is a theatre artist and educator who has been performing and teaching with puppets for almost 20 years. He has worked as a puppeteer in stage, television, and commercial settings, including: Bread & Puppet, the Underground Railway Theatre, Flock Theatre, and the National Puppetry Conference. He is Chief Instigator of the Puppet Slams at Puppet Showplace Theatre in Brookline, Massachusetts.
