CHECK THIS OUT! PODCAST INTERVIEW AND ARTICLE/PHOTOS WITH THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE PREVIEW SECTION 9.20.07:
The Blue Threads began in 2004 when Dalton Dunn and Brandon Custer met & jammed for the first time at Shakespeare's Pub during the Blues Jam hosted by "Spare Time" Murray. The chemistry between the two lads was unbelievable. Dalton, long known regionally as an up-and-coming Blues guitarist, (who first played on stage at the age of 10 with Matt Leddy & the Meatcutters) and Brandon, a veteran of Austin's School of Rock/Jazz, were obviously destined to form a band together.
In the fall of 2006, "The Blue Threads" competed in The International Blues Competition/Houston Round. The BT's finished in third place among musicians many years their senior; fueling their desire to record.
By mid-January 2007, armed with 12 original songs penned by band leader Dalton, The BT's decided it was time to head to the studio. They began practicing, perfecting, & tweaking in preparation of recording. After meeting the amazing Rock ("Dr. Rockit") Romano & touring his Red Shack Recording Studio in the Heights of Houston, Texas, The BT's booked the studio. Focused and extremely driven, they utilized their entire "Spring Break" to record their first CD in March 2007.
The Blue Threads Self-Titled CD consisting of 6 originals and 6 cover tunes is hailed a "must buy" by local journalists; and, in spite of their youth reveals talent way beyond their years.
Dalton Dunn leads The Blue Threads on Guitar & Vocals, Chris Spencer on Bass, and Brandon Custer on Drums.
The Blue Threads' sound is inspired by the classic rock riffs of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and The Stooges, updated with the harder sounds of Wolfmother and Soundgarden.
On the seventh day, on the seventh hour...ROCKED the freakin' Bayou like it ain't nevah been rocked before! For those that didn't witness it, believe it when you hear that 3 of Houston's FINEST awed the tiny crowd that was there and held them CAPTIVE for over 30 minutes. Has LIVE music come to this? Too many can download to MP3 and plug it in the ear...But it AIN'T the same as seeing & hearing it at the same time - which can ONLY happen if you are there - hence: LIVE! I appreciate and prefer LIVE music so much but most just don't get it. I LOVE you guys so much, of course I would anyway cause I'm one of the Mom's - But, you are so freakin' awesome. I just hate it that so many are missing out on this amazing talent! It's REAL Rock n Roll - like a mix of music from the 70's to present with all the different genre influences blended into one. Your own style mixed with all your mentors from past eras. God how I wish I had the power to make things happen for you. Love you...MUCHO! Mmmwha! xoxo, Rock N Roll Mama aka Mama Marilyn
Ya'll ROCK that BAYOU tonight boys, or I should say, young men. Let's show HOUSTON and the WORLD what home grown musicians can do and what the hell Houston has been missing out on! Let's R O C K ! xoxo, Rock-N-Roll Mama
DALTON!!!! The new songs!!!! OMG I had no idea you were recording, this is what I was thinking was inside of you..and more! You guys are on the right path..sounds really good.
Well, it might be predictable coming from one of The BT's "top" friends and of course, one of the "Rock-N-Roll Mama's" of one of the band members, but you guys just kick ARS every freaking time and did an outstanding job of opening for The Rising at their CD Release Party...The Rising has grown and so have the BT's. Stay connected through your music with your bros cause you'll need each other in this dog eat dog bizness. xoxo, Rock-N-Roll Mama
