My name is Jessica and I’m a bibliophile. They say admitting you have a
problem is the first step to recovery but I don’t think it helps when you’re
addicted to books. At least, I’ve conceded to being an addict for most of my
life and I’m still a bibliophile. Despite my addiction, I’m still able to
function in normal society. But then maybe I’m not addicted so much as in love.
There’s a difference between being a bibliophile and a bibliomaniac. Bibliomania
is a brand of obsessive compulsive disorder whereas Bibliophilia is an extreme
hobby. Really it’s like comparing a raging alcoholic to a Saturday drunk. It’s
all a matter of degrees.
I live in the Midwest with my husband, our one year old daughter, collection of
books and 13 assorted chickens. Apart from reading, I like to garden, hike,
paint, crochet and draw. And I write- as you can tell, because I'm writing right
now. Isn't the written word amazing?
I'm particularly interested in the intersection of science, art and popular culture. My background in biology fuels my love for all things "science" and my love of art leads me to do crazy things like sketch Thermocyclers and Erlenmeyers. I told you I was odd :p
Right now I'm painting something a bit different though- a Buddha surrounded by Orchids with one wilted at his feet, to symbolize impermanence. I'll post pics when it's finished.
Who I'd like to meet: Jello Biafra, Albert Einstein, Richard Dawkins, Pre-contact Easter Islanders, Jared Diamond, Jane Yolen, Crazy Horse, Bill Bryson, The Buddha, Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Charles Darwin, Carl Sagan, John Muir, The Dalai Lama, Stephen Jay Gould, Steven Katz, Micho Kaku, Douglas Adams, Marty Stouffer, Leonardo da Vinci

It's been awhile! I wonder if Dr. Schnabel still has that tank of Vallisneria.... AND whenever I see any cacti, I always think of you! I love your image with you standing in tall (big) bluestem! It made me think of the time we went with Schnabel to see all the bluestem. Ah....some good times. Sometimes, I do miss school.
