Not much has come out of fall river, Massachusetts that is worth mentioning besides the largely industrial parks surrounding the lively city, and the fact that 90 percent of the population is Portuguese. Swayne is not Portuguese and he doesn’t work in the steel mills in the surrounding area, but while growing up he was heavily influenced by the Boston hardcore and local hip hop scene. "Growing up all i listened to was hardcore and metal and a bit of hardcore rap" Swayne says "I didn’t start really getting into hip hop till late in my high school years". Yes ladies and gentlemen he is a hip hop artist, still working to pay his dues in a genre with such overpopulation of deadbeat rappers and wannabe thugs and imitators. Swayne is bringing something different to the genre by being himself and writing what comes to him as he lives his daily life. "when i first got into hip hop i was heavily influenced by Esham and his style at the time i thought it was just such a different take on hip hop altogether i mean he was on his own doing what no one had done before."
Swayne started off with a horror-core type of sound (i.e. gravediggaz, esham, q-strange, the flatlinerz), but soon started to grow away from that type altogether. " i had realized horror-core is just to one dimensional of a genre of rap, its just i stab you and you die oh and then ill write another song about the same crap. so i decided to just do what came to me and well it seems to be working out!" Swayne has been coming with that raw sound you were used to when krs-one had just started coming up and rap was a very new genre to the music scene altogether, and with swayne music much like himself, you can never expect anything twice. " I like to keep people on their toes, I don’t want anyone being able to say that I’ve already done something before, I like being new and innovative that’s what music should be about".
Swayne got his start in a local group called BIB. (The Ball Itching Bastards) not really on a serious note the group soon split leaving swayne between a rock and a hard place. " I realized i was screwed because i had just got into rap at the time and they decided to split up, but hazardous wastes (member of BIB.) had a studio and said that i could record stuff if i still wanted to do it and that he would help". what started as a joke and just something to do for fun has since become life. Swayne has since that day been working on his debut album "Dead To My Peers" since then and everyday is a new experience and there is always something to write about.
