swampglow is a live hip-hop band comprising of Josef Motley (vocals), Bujuben (laptop beats & synths), Abe Normal (korg electribe beats, synths & occaisonal beatbox), the renowned Yasson (beatbox & vocals) and Mr. Ostritch (vocals & miscellany). Beginning in 2006 as solo project of Motley, he began attempts to persuade his more musically talented friends to join the cause after releasing first album 'Catastrophe Curve', mainly written on PSone program 'music 2000'. The second album, 'the Sweatshop Nit Kingdom' featured guest appearances from Yasson, Bujuben, the lost & found sound, Xaigon & Jackarack, and a lot more live instrumentation in general, but it wasn't until Motley decided to enter swampglow in the Portsmouth Wedgewood rooms battle of the bands in 2007 that swampglow became a real band. Having no real set and only one gig under his belt, Motley recruited Andeas Hobo from Myriad and longtime collaborators Buju & Yasson to create a whole new live set, very loosely based on some earlier material but bearing little or no resemblence to it beyond the lyrics. Somehow the band got through to the semi-final, where they recruited Wairmi Asahbajj on vocals, then the final, where they added yet another member, DJ Rusty Sheriff, who has since left to concentrate more fully on his excellent solo output. Guitarist Six-String Sara also briefly joined the band at the end of 2007, around the same time swampglow began recording their new and vastly superior songs as an EP, now nearly finished.... they'll be gigging again when they have a new set.
