The band was formed in early 2003 when Andreas and Johan, who were playing in Andreas’ room, started to talk about forming a band. Thomas were some of them who visited Andreas’ house to jam.
It was decided that he would play bass, so that they could start a band for real.
The first line-up:
Andreas Sahlin – Guitars, Vocals
Johan Forsman – Drums
Thomas Melin – Bass
Emil Lindström – Guitar, Backup Vocals
During the spring, Johan came up with the name Surain, and they started to play rock covers at local parties and festivities. At that time, they had already started to write own music, but it would take several months ‘til a song was finished.
Later on, in spring 2005, the four members started to argue whether they should stick to play harder rock music or, as Andreas and Johan thought, a more melodic light rock. On top of this the band started to reconsider Emil’s place. He wasn’t as dedicated to the band as was requested of him. This conflict resulted in such way that Surain decided Emil had to leave the band at the end of May. They would continue as a three-piece band, and play what ever felt right at the time. The band spent the rest of the year re-arranging songs, practising and writing lyrics. They also started to build their very own studio.
In 2006 the band preformed their first non-cover-songs gig. It was at Showground, Härnösand, Sweden. Followed up some weeks later with a gig in their hometown Sundsvall at "Hus 25".
Surain was supposed to record their first demo in May 2006 but it was delayed due to difficulties with the studio guy. After several appointments and deals that led no where with this particular studio fellow the band was fed up with reschedules and contacted an other studio instead after 5 months of trying to reach the original studio. Surain's first demo "demo 1" was recocorded in November at LPS-production in Sundsvall.
In 2007 the band started their quest for gigs and occasionally showed up at some gigs on a local tour called the Trotyltour.
Surain has recently finished their second demo and we're currently working on new material.
