i HATE bands that act like they are ABOVE influences and try to act like they SO have a sound of their own when in actuality they sound just like mars volta/strokes/interpol/pick any band from the 60's. that's lame & you're not original you're just insecure. fucking man up, be honest and just put "we sound JUST like this band mixed with that band because we're trendy and nothing more".
anyways...this keeps changing, but here goes...
kamal likes: led zepellin, jeff buckley, nirvana, queens of the stone age, chuck berry, james brown, david bowie, hot snakes/drives like jehu, misfits, jimi hendrix, more to come...
I , being Paul , enjoy too many bands to name particular influences from , but this is about SVTO not necessarily the entire repitiore of my musical tastes.I think if you look at Kamal's influences ( throw in some Pixies , Elliot Smith , Neurosis , PJ Harvey and the Melvins in there for me ) you can see , or hear rather , where we derive our main musical inspirations from.....oh yeah and my dog CHUG , he's the coolest person EVER !!!!!!!
"The best influences are those that change your life, the way you think, and the way you feel. When I started playing music I aspired to be as good or better than the artists I listened to. However, know I aspire to be as talented as the musicians I play with.
to tell ya the truth, at this point the music we're creating...well we just want it to be good. really good. music that you want to listen to more and more. music to make babies to. music to start riots to. everything We hear right now fits so perfectly genre-wise, which is right where we don't want to be. but we still want to be your favorite rock band. We think the only way to do both is to pay homage to the past but for god's sake take a fucking chance and create something new. rock for the (m)asses?

We are this week's featured band on the video blog Pacific Noise! Thanks John for all of your hard work with Pacific Noise and for caring so much for local music:
Here's a video of us playing "For Those Who Have It All" acoustically at Mama Buzz Cafe in Oakland. We learned so much about ourselves and what we were capable of at this show. It was really a special time for all the bands involved...and it's good to know that the songs sound good when stripped down to the bare essentials:
more videos below! the first one shows how damn hard it is to record hand-claps. after much practice, we still need to re-record :-) the others are short clips from a great show we had at Retox Lounge, SF. Enjoy. Videos taken by Matteow
Thank you guys once again for coming out!! We always love to see you and hang. We gotta hit up the nightlife one of these nights. All of us havin a good time. Sooner than later!
