Regular members -
Dave - caller - runs the Bridge and Bluestone Folk Clubs and is a member of, a capella, folk group Beeswing. Dave believes that dances should be fun and not workshops. The idea is to enjoy a ceilidh and be able to make mistakes.
Terry - guitar and sound - Ex brewer and ex member of the Trent House Ceilidh Band
John Wheeler plays banjo and accordion in the band, and occasionally guitar and mandolin. He has been playing folk music for more than thirty years and particularly enjoys the fun that comes about in ceildh's when the calling, the music and the dancing all fit together.
Summerhill Folly came together over fifteen years ago and still has the same line up, although guest musicians are called in when the need arises. They got together as a scratch band when a very famous band failed to turn up for a ceilidh. This same band failed to turn up on a second occasion so Summerhill Folly was formed, the rest, as they say, is history. As a result of these experiences in the early days, they guarantee to turn up whatever. The name is a result of most of them living around Blaydon at the time of the band's beginnings and there is a folly built by a local coal owner, years ago, called Summerhill Folly, it seemed like a good name at the time.
We have our own PA system which is regularly PAT tested in keeping with modern regulations and also public liability.
