About Subversive Zone
The Subversive Zone is a collective. A community of artists pushing the envelope of high tech musical creativity gathering on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.
About Red Zone
This is our new monthly event focusing on live Electro Body Dance Music. The Subversive Zone Collective extends the services of it's more EBM oriented bands to high light this aspect of our community for a night each month. The Red Zone is co hosted by Pan Zen Sound System. For the last half of the night a number of Pan Zen acts grace the stage as one with an eclectic and infectious blend of hard hitting sensuous dance music. The aim of this event is to invert genrefication of this recently pigeonholed macrocosm of a music moniker. EBM, electro body music means just that. Come explore the possibilities within your community.
It is time for this to happen in Portland. This is our movement. Industrial rave is on!

Joe Evans, long time supporter of my projects and Portland's electronic music scene in general, made a proposal. He was helping book Mt. Tabor Theater's resurrection as the Upper Hawthorne Historical District's Mt. Tabor Legacy Theater and he wanted me to reestablish the Subversive Zone on a bi-monthly basis. As it happened I had just written a new TSR set so I suggested 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Joe asked me to make a more prominent role for TSR as event host. We had fliers made up and it's been 3 to 5 acts per gig ever since. Doing it twice a month instead of 4 or 5 times and leading into a collective jam to end each event became what the event is today.
What about live music? If you are doing it please do it in The Subversive Zone. Especially if it's electronic and nothing makes you happier than to make it. That is what this event is about. The Subversive Zone boasts a 30 to 50 act contact list at all times. We are electronic based but from a very broad spectrum. Sometimes not electronic at all if we feel it will add to the spirit of this community based event. For example: We think it’s cool to book Steel Stiletto (female acoustic) to play amidst a plethora of rivet head machinery. Doing this event in a movie theatre allows us to activate on dichotomies that only work in a multimedia environment.
Ye and all of PanZen are fusing their collective momentum with ours for weekend main stage events at Mt. Tabor Legacy Theater. The next one is on Friday May 30 and you should come. This is our sister event called The Red Zone. It is a live electronic dance club night. A mixture of live PA beat freaks and vocal electronic acts is an unprecedented hybrid within the Portland music scene. We’ve done two so far and hope you’ll come out to help solidify this as a regular monthly weekend event.
I have also booked for an all-ages festival with beer, wine & pizza. It's going to be held at It's A Beautiful Pizza on Belmont (matinee through eve) on Saturday, May 24th. My 7 year old son will finally get to see his dad perform and we can welcome our first underage Subversive Zone act Product to the stage. May 24th is going to be a great day. Come check out [product], Digital Trauma, !Go-Yo!, Azphodel, The Blackwaters and Structural Ivy.
