   About Submodern

please vote for our new radiohead remix right here just by clicking on the "+"!

submodern have been performing live electronic music together using synthesizers and drum machines for many years. the music we play is melodic, moody, and spacey with bloops, bleeps and electronic beats. our live set is designed so it can be rearranged, remixed, extended, and improvised upon as it is played live on synths and beatboxes, no laptop!, resulting in free-flowing sets that are never played the same way twice.

we have several hours worth of live sets, including several we played at burning man, up on our website.

if you like what you hear and you want to hear more, you can also buy our debut album or our latest ep, both out on cryptic funk records.

we are currently in the studio finishing up an ambient-electro album based on the music that we played at burning man 2005. you can hear some of the songs from this soon-to-be released album above.

here's some music we've been listening to lately...

Hey Art,

Upbeat is cool--interesting sounds--it's quite catchy. Can't wait to hear your album! Are you playing at BM again this year?

Hey Art,

Thanks so much for your comment about Sketchy! I think that song is turning out really cool. It's a bit more jazzy than some of the other songs, and it works quite well with my voice. The song reminds me a bit of Everything But the Girl. I think our voices sound kind of similar on it.

Hey-- I want a copy of your new album whenever you get one.
Thanks! Rachel

Was that a review you found somehwere? If not, that's one of the coolest things I've read! An accurate depiction to say the least.....I'm gonna post it with my other reviews

Thanks for the kind words. I'll try to come up with something about Submodern as well!

Etage Noir Recordings

Dec 18 2007 9:41 PM

As of December 12th 2007 our worldwide exclusive distributor Soulseduction filed for bankruptcy. Bad news that spread like wildfire and shocked the independent label scene.

This circumstance poses a massive financial threat to Etage Noir and numerous other record labels because the distributor acts as the main link between the label and the music consumer.

But for all that we have to keep our positive attitude and will go to any lengths to save our most beloved baby Etage Noir.

Therefore we offer you two label compilations for download exclusively from our website (http://etagenoir.com). These discs were originally scheduled to be released in March 2008. The music featured includes all time classics as well as brand-new and unreleased material.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the music lovers, DJs, journalists, radio stations and business partners for their massive support through all the years.

Face the future!
