Straight Arms started as the home recordings of Darin Strachan. He moved around a lot and played different instruments (mainly guitar) in different bands. He was a founding member of Denver's Cowboy Curse, before moving to Covington, KY. On the bank of the Ohio River, he became apart of Cincinnati's incredible independent music scene as a member of The Minni-Thins and For Algernon.
For a while, there was a live band that focused on being versatile and selective. Sean Sullivan is the owner, operator, and engineer of Tiny Basement Studio and was the guitarist for another local band, The Silhouette. Sean also put together a great band of layers of musicians called Pieces of People. Goldy is a master of bass and a orchestral bass performance granduate from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Aaron Strickland, the drummer of The Minni-Thins (a band in which Darin is also a member), pounded tom heavy rhythms.
The diversity of the music is a testament to the band's range of influences. They mix acoustic rock and folk (Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake), indie rock (Wilco, Shins, Built To Spill), pre-punk (Velvet Underground, The Modern Lovers, David Bowie), and rock and roll (The Rolling Stones, The Replacements).
A truly independent band, Straight Arms really only had one album, "The Final Broadcast of The Underground Radio Show." The theme to this self-made album is the final 30 minutes of a true underground radio show focusing on independent and original music. The album starts with radio static of a listener tuning a dial to find the radio show. There are a total of 9 songs with DJ interludes. After the final song, static fills the disc. The album was available as a free give away at all Straight Arms performances.
There may be some more recordings surfacing of Darin's recordings in the future, but immediate plans at this time.

“Julia, On Her Prayer Stand” is our new song from our newly recorded album, That Old Kentucky Blackgrass (coming 2007), and is now available on our Myspace Profile. It’s a sparse and psychedelic ditty for the Baby Jesus’ birthday, and I hope you like it.
She keeps asking where the door goes. Well, dear, it opens a wall. Go and open it right now, reveal the great hall- let loose the hose that knows where all the words, they go; the point of this speech: This sequence of events is not coincidence.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from The Minni-Thins!
