Steve Lavers isn’t your average writer/producer, in fact his talents go way beyond the pigeon-holes of specific skills or genres. His work matches experimentalism with beats, sounds and production with an ear for the accessible and a real, raw sound from the soul.
He has carved out a career over 10 years as producer, programmer, guitarist, songwriter and Pro Tools engineer his many projects span hip-hop, rock, breakbeat, house and alternative. At home in the studio or in a live set, his sonic creations feature everything from heavy beats and rumbling percussion to ricocheting audio editing, distorted guitar, electronic funk and complex string harmonies.
Not used to limiting himself he’s ready to start on his next challenge – a kind-of concept album giving him the freedom of musical expression that will showcase his interest in soundtracks, and build on his experience creating ad music and scoring theatre production. Expect instrumental melodic and twisted music inspired by the film scores of Bernstein, Williams etc, music rewritten by Lavers as an alternative score to favourite film scenes.
Steve’s musical journey began when he first found heavy rock as a lad and then the deep and dark beats of acid house music exploding in raves across his home-county of Essex and East London. In the early days he toured with a rock-funk band on the Essex and London circuit before moving into dance and urban music production.
His work as a producer/engineer has seen him in the studio with Mick Jagger, Spiritual South, Phase Action, Copyright, ex M-People Shovell and UK rappers Gibberish/Iron Bridge and Innocent, and remixing The Cooper Temple Clause.
Notching up many successful releases under his belt with his own production/writing projects he has established his name both in house and breaks. Trisco and Wonderland Avenue releases on Vinyl Addiction, Hope Recordings, Positiva & Data Records received widespread acclaim including Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune for Ride The White Horse.
Also one half of respected breaks imprint Audio Bug Records, he releases under the name of Area-555, and Move Ya! and Steve Lavers and has remixed Deep Dish, DK8, and Shut Up and Dance, and the latest track featuring on Playstation 3 and PSP game Wipeout. The label is successful in its own right with other releases from Nitro and Quest & Odissi, and gets serious support from the likes of Annie Nightingale, Annie Mac, The Plump DJs and Fatboy Slim.
As if that wasn't enough, British Intelligence is his live project, hard edged hip hop with a granite rock edge it has Steve on production/writing and guitar. B.I cuts appeared on the official Arsenal album on Sanctuary Records and on the Official FIFA World Cup 2006 album. Expect much more from these guys.
